The Dr. Lewis B. O’Donnell Media Summit will once again
feature professionals at the peak of the communications industry.
Oswego’s
own Mark Levy ’86 of NBC Sports highlights
a panel moderated by summit founder Louis
A. Borrelli Jr. ’77. Levy, vice president and creative director at NBC for
sports and Olympics coverage, will be joined on the Media Summit panel by Moss Appeal founder and proprietor E.B. Moss.
Moss founded her New
York City firm specializing in “marketing on demand”
in 2001. The company prides itself on green practices and counts the American
Movie Channel and TV One among its clients.
These key visitors will focus on "Your GPS Directions to the Digital Media
World," the theme of this year’s event. A slew of recent grads and
seasoned professionals will also take part in classroom visits and a post-panel
Career Connectors program, where students will have the opportunity to learn
about the current communications job market.
“It’s amazing how many people have left here and gone on to
big things, many in just five years or so,” summit coordinator and
communications Professor Jerry Condra said. “With the panel and the Career Connectors,
I expect to see straight shooters; I expect great career advice for the
students.
“We’re calling it GPS, because these is going to be very
precise directions,” he added. “These people are eminently qualified to tell
them exactly what they need to do to get that internship or to get that first
job.”
Unlike past years, the 3 p.m. panel will be ticket-free,
with the entire campus community and any one else interested in the discussion
are invited. All summit participants will visit classrooms throughout the day
as well.
Longtime television
executive Borrelli founded the summit in 2005 with a leadership
gift. Two years ago, he and NBC “Today” show co-host and weatherman Al Roker
’76 provided funding to name it in honor of O’Donnell, longtime chair of Oswego’s communication
studies department, who passed away in 2007.
