A growing Web technology is making it easier for Lake E-ffect readers to get the latest stories produced by the Oswego Alumni Association.
Real Simple Syndication, or RSS, allows users to subscribe to various feeds now available across the Internet. Many news sites and blogs - even Oswego's Web site - are offering RSS feeds that can be used in many different ways to get the latest stories and items.
Web browsers like Mozilla Firefox offer "Live Bookmarks" and indicate when an RSS feed is available with a button on the right side of the address bar. E-mail clients such as Mozilla Thunderbird also feature an RSS reader. Some may prefer to subscribe to feeds via Web-based services.
Users can subscribe manually by plugging the RSS feed URL into the reader program. Once the subscription is established, the RSS reader will update the story or item list as it is updated by the parent site.
To subscribe to the Lake E-ffect feed and see the headlines as they're updated, click the icon to the right of the Web address on this page or any story from this month's issue and follow the instructions. You may also subscribe to the feed directly by cutting and pasting Lake E-ffect's RSS link at www.oswego.edu/alumni/publications/enews into your RSS program.
