Registration is under way for Reunion 2009, planned for June 4 through 7.
Several classes will celebrate milestones and many groups have mini-reunions planned. The entire weekend will feature boat cruise-themed special events.
Reunion 2009 is a great opportunity to catch up and network with classmates. Though all class years are invited, special events are planned for the classes of 1939, '44, '49, '54, '59, '64, '69, '84, '88, '89, '90 and '99.
Class fundraising volunteer Dana Segall Murphy '99 is hoping to connect with many of her old friends on campus. She keeps a large circle of Oswego alumni -- many from the student media groups she was involved with -- close to her still.
The Oswego experience fostered tight bonds with many of her peers as an undergraduate, Murphy said.
"I really credit the snow and wind with helping me make such good friends," she said with a laugh.
For her, Reunion is an opportunity to reminisce and see the many recent changes to the campus landscape.
One longtime institution will receive some recognition during Reunion. The Hall Newman Center has officially been a home for Catholic students for the last 75 years.
"It's a wonderful way of celebrating 75 years," said Michael Huynh '98, director of campus ministry. "It's a great way for people to come together and share their stories of this place."
An open house and Mass will be part of that celebration. The Mass also will dedicate time to memorialize Lynne Hartunian '89 and Colleen Brunner '90, two Oswego students among the 258 passengers who perished in the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing Dec. 21, 1988.
Many of the students who traveled to London with Hartunian and Brunner in 1988 have helped to plan a remembrance ceremony in conjunction with the 20th reunion of the classes of '88, '89, and '90.
The Penfield Library will host the remembrance ceremony in the lobby where the Pan Am memorial for Hartunian and Brunner is located.
Details of the weekend's events -- including get-togethers planned by several Greek and other organizations -- will be provided in the Reunion Weekend 2009 reservation mailer. Advance reservations are required and early-bird savings are available through May 22.
