SUNY Oswego alumni are invited to be a part of the Inner Circle that will welcome the newest class of graduates to their ranks at the Torchlight Ceremony.

Albany-area television news co-anchor and reporter Benita Zahn '76 will be mistress of ceremonies at the May 16 event, where dozens of classes past will be represented in the Inner Circle.

A 5:30 p.m. cocktail reception and dinner in Hewitt Union kick things off. The traditional Senior Sing is slated for 8:30 p.m. in Sheldon Park, where the 73rd annual Torchlight Ceremony will follow at 9.

Zahn appears as a co-anchor on WNYT-TV "NewsChannel 13" in Albany. As a health reporter, she covers wellness, treatment breakthroughs, aging, nutrition and the latest health care trends.

With a background in the sciences and a bachelor's degree in communication studies/broadcasting and theatre, she received the Anniversary Class Award from the Oswego Alumni Association in 2001. She has several stage performance credits in the Albany area and in 2006 she established an excellence fund for Oswego State's theatre department.

As mistress of ceremonies at Torchlight, the award-winning Zahn will be joined by standout students from the Class of 2008.

Chris Thatcher '08 will be the Torchlight Ceremony student master of ceremonies. Christie Torruella '08 is student mistress of ceremonies for the Torchlight Dinner.

Jessica Schlect '08 will make student remarks at the ceremony. Kristin Quinn '08 has been selected as Torchbearer and Michael LaMastra '08 will be the Class of 2008 Inner Circle member.

Those attending dinner will have a choice among steak, chicken or vegetarian entrees, each costing between $25 and $30. Graduating students eat for only $5 thanks to a grant from Auxiliary Services and the Oswego Alumni Association.
