Shane M. Liebler brings his journalistic background and experience to Oswego's Office of Alumni and Development as the communications assistant.

Liebler is a journalism/mass communications graduate of St. Bonaventure University.

“I’m looking at the other half of the degree and seeing what I can do with it,” Liebler said of his move from newspaper journalism.

Originally from Detroit, Liebler has worked at newspapers in the Upstate New York area since graduating from St. Bonaventure in 2003, most recently The Citizen in Auburn. Liebler was welcomed into his new office in Sheldon Hall Feb. 11.

Liebler will edit the alumni news section of the Oswego alumni magazine, including class notes, weddings, the Graduate of the Last Decade feature and In Memoriam. He will also contribute campus news and feature stories.

He says he will strive to “make it more readable and enjoyable for our alumni.” In addition to his work with the magazine, he will be editing the Lake E-ffect e-newsletter each month and the Oswego Parents newsletter twice a year. 

Outside the workplace, Liebler is an avid fan of baseball, keeping to his roots by supporting the Detroit Tigers. He is also a season ticket holder for the Syracuse Chiefs. Liebler has also begun training for the Utica Boilermaker 15K run, which will take place in July.

He has a passion for music, which developed from his work with the student radio station, WSBU-FM, at St. Bonaventure. Liebler likes discovering new music, and keeping up-to-date on the latest trends. 

Liebler says he most enjoys the close-knit, family-like atmosphere of SUNY Oswego.
