The Campus Center
proved an appropriate venue for recognizing the accomplishments of the recent
past and looking forward.
About 100 students
representing every SUNY Oswego college were acknowledged with scholarships and
awards at the Honors Convocation presented by Vega in the Campus Center
for the first time this year. The building, scholarship namesakes and the award
recipients provide plenty for Oswego
to take pride in, college President Deborah F. Stanley said.
"You are able to combine
your gifts and talents with hard work and passion," Stanley told students, who were joined at the
ceremony by an audience of faculty, friends and family. "My hope for you is
that you continue to find meaningful ways to share your gifts and talents with
others.
"We will look forward to
good news about your futures as well," she said.
Victoria Vitarelli '92 urged students to continue building their "resumes
of life" after they graduate. Professional development should be accompanied by
community service and other life experience, she said.
"When you give back,
you'll be amazed at what you get in return," Vitarelli said during her Honors
Convocation address.
Vitarelli developed
marketing programs for leading consumer brands as a member of agencies that
included Publicis-Bloom, Bozell Worldwide and Ogilvy & Mather before
joining MasterCard International as vice president for brand building.
She has worked for the New York Jets for the past five years,
currently as senior director of marketing. Her duties include oversight of the
Jets' Web site and integrated brand management.
"I think keeping an open
mind and exploring opportunities is really key," Vitarelli said. "You are set
up for success ... keep striving for it."
Before appearing at the
Honors Convocation April 25, Vitarelli visited marketing classes as part of the
Oswego Alumni Association Alumni-In-Residence program.
