"It was everything I'm looking for in the future, but I'm getting to do it when I'm in college," said Christine Clemmens '09, fresh from a semester abroad in Sydney, Australia.
The human resource management major interned at the Four Seasons hotel there from January until April as part of an Office of International Education program.
"I had always worked in a small office, this was a chance to work at a company with more than 600 people," Clemmens said. "It totally changed my entire outlook."
She also took the opportunity to expand her academic horizons with classes in art and anthropology that utilized Australian sites and galleries. The Centres for Academic Programs Abroad, or CAPA, semester splits time and credits between class and internship.
"I think the experience really enriched everything," Clemmens said.
The options for study abroad, Lake Ontario and affordability were all major factors in her decision to attend Oswego. The Presidential Scholar grew up near campus.
"I've loved every professor I've ever had," Clemmens said.
She looks forward to working on the recruiting side of human resources - maybe even overseas - before returning to graduate school.
