Facebook, YouTube, MP3s, even Google: The world is moving faster than ever with the advent of on-demand media and social networking Web sites.
Sports, radio, music and television industry leaders stopped to catch their breath and discuss the radical impact of the "Media Revolution" Oct. 22.
If you didn't make it to campus, the revolution is coming ... this month to satellite television.
Media analyst Jack Myers moderated a panel that included Steve Leblang '81 of FX Networks, Patrick Stiegman of ESPN.com, Erica Farber of Radio & Records, J. Scott Dinsdale of Sony BMG and student reactor Candace Dunkley '09. Their conversation in front of more than 300 people gathered in the Sheldon Hall Ballroom will appear twice Feb. 11 on the DISH Network's Universityhouse Channel 9411.
The program will air 7:30 to 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. to midnight, Eastern Standard Time; 4:30 to 6 p.m. and 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Pacific Time Zone.
The Dr. Lewis B. O'Donnell Media Summit brought together media executives, alumni and students for the fourth annual day of class visits and the panel.
Communication studies students work with Campus Technology Services Associate Bill Canning and Professor Jane Winslow to coordinate, promote and produce the broadcast for the event. Each year, the guests discuss a very contemporary issue.
"The whole media world as we know it is absolutely changing at the seams," summit coordinator and communication studies Professor Jerry Condra said. "The pressure is on and all the new media is out there and it's garnering new audiences."
No satellite? No problem. An on-demand audio version of the panel discussion is posted on WRVO.fm.
Alumnus Louis A. Borrelli Jr. '77 founded the summit in 2005 with a leadership gift. Last year, he and Al Roker '76 provided funding to name it in honor of O'Donnell, longtime chair of Oswego's communication studies department, who passed away in 2007.
