Basketball Coach Posts 200th Win

Kevin Broderick M '92

Oswego State men's basketball coach Kevin Broderick M '92 has seen his share of milestone moments during his 13 seasons at Laker Hall. During the first 14 games of the 2008-09 season, he witnessed two of his players -- co-captains Kyle Reuter '09 and Tommy Downing '09 -- surpass the 1,000-point career scoring mark.

Broderick achieved a milestone of his own Jan. 13, earning his 200th career coaching victory when the Lakers posted a 91-83 home win over SUNY Plattsburgh.  Broderick, already the winningest coach in the program's history, has amassed a 201-144 career mark.

Only two others registered 150 wins or more in the 84-year history of men's basketball at Oswego: the program's first-ever coach Max Ziel (168-242 mark over 27 seasons beginning in 1921) and John Glinski (153-81 over 11 seasons beginning in 1958).

Broderick's 13 seasons is also the second-longest coaching tenure behind Ziel, for whom the gymnasium at Laker Hall is named.

The Lakers are 11-7 overall and 7-3 in SUNY Athletic Conference play through Feb. 3.

Broderick will be honored before the Friday, Feb. 6, contest against SUNY Cortland. The game begins at 8 p.m. and Broderick will be acknowledged at about 7:30.
