Grisel Joins Development Team

Alica Grisel

Alicia Grisel has joined Oswego’s Office of University Development as the development research associate, adding her strong organizational and leadership qualities to the office.

Grisel, a recent graduate of SUNY Cortland, began work at Sheldon Hall Jan. 28. She brings with her experience in fundraising for a nonprofit organization. She served as a research aide for the Cortland College Foundation, where she received the Foundation Dedication Award for 2005-06.

Through her work at Cortland, Grisel became familiar with research foundations and developed strong alumni communications skills. Her new position on the development team involves researching potential corporate and individual donors for SUNY Oswego.

“I definitely want to develop new practices and get on board with the best practices of the industry,” Grisel said of her goals on the development team.

Grisel is also an active, and ambitious volunteer for the American Cancer Society. While at SUNY Cortland she founded the Relay for Life Committee as well as Cortland’s chapter of Colleges Against Cancer. Under her leadership, Cortland’s Relay for Life raised more than $80,000 for cancer research.

Also at SUNY Cortland, Grisel was president of the Student-Alumni Association and co-chair of the Cortland College Foundation Senior Class Gift Committee. She received the Leadership in Civic Engagement Award, Outstanding Student Club Member Award and Outstanding Student Leader Award at Cortland.

Grisel is familiar with the Oswego area, and is happy to be working in a comfortable, friendly atmosphere. “Oswego is a great place. It’s a beautiful campus,” she said.
