Oswego State women’s tennis player Tiarra Garrow ’10 has been selected as the winner of the third annual Peter J. Cahill Award. Presented to the SUNY Athletic Conference’s Most Valuable Player in women’s tennis, it was named to honor the commitment and success of late Cortland tennis coach Peter Cahill.

Garrow took second place in the No. 1 singles flight at the recent SUNYAC Women’s Tennis Championships.  She won a grueling first-round, three-set match that lasted over three hours 2-6, 7-5, 7-5.  She then won her second-round match 6-4, 7-6 (2) against an opponent who had previously beaten her during the regular season, before falling to the eventual SUNYAC champion in the final round 6-2, 6-3.

In addition to winning the Cahill Award, Garrow was also named to the 2009 Women’s Tennis All-SUNYAC Second Team.  She was also a second-team all-conference selection in No. 1 singles last season.
