The Oswego College Foundation encourages supporters to consider establishing a gift annuity this holiday season.

It's a gift that keeps on giving to both the college and the donor, who receives a fixed quarterly payment for life in exchange for cash or marketable securities.

"We basically guarantee income for the rest of their lives and they get to contribute to something they care deeply about," said Director of Finance Mark Slayton.

A formula determines how much the annual payout, or annuity, will be. Essentially, the older the donor is, the greater the guaranteed rate of return, Slayton said.

The gift also qualifies for a tax deduction in the year it is made, so enrollment before Dec. 31 will qualify for 2008 returns.
