Oswego State athletics teams successfully hosted and
competed in invitational events in September, showcasing
their programs and facilities. Oswego State will host
yet another invitational tournament Oct. 13 and 14 as
the volleyball team welcomes Gallaudet, St. Lawrence,
Plattsburgh and Hartwick to Ziel Gymnasium at Laker
Hall.
The Oswego State cross country teams welcomed 13 men's
and women's teams to campus for the 16th Annual Oswego
State Cross Country Invitational Sept. 9. The competitors
ran a scenic course through the campus and along the
shoreline of Lake Ontario. Cloudy, rainy, and cool conditions
made things more problematic for the runners, but the
event was an overwhelming success.
The nationally-ranked Geneseo men's and women's teams
won the races for the fifth year in a row. The Geneseo
women's team, the defending NCAA Division III Champions,
had the first five finishers in the Pat Peterson Women's
5K race. The Oswego State women's team finished in 11th
place. The top finisher for the Lakers was Rosemary
Foran ’10 who finished in 96th place with
a time of 22:31.4. Caitlin Wlodarski
’09 was 104th in 23:09.3.
The Oswego State men's team finished in fourth place
in the Don Masterson Men's 8K race with 139 points,
trailing Geneseo, St. Lawrence, and third-place Cortland
(117). Tony Battista ’07
was Oswego State's top individual performer. He finished
in 16th place with a time of 26:22.7. Julius
Wood ’07 was 24th (26:44.3) and Matt
Densmore ’08 was 32nd (27:02.0). Other
Lakers that scored in the meet were Chris
Reich ’08, Derek
Dunning ’09, Phil
Panebianco ’07, and Joe
Merrihew ’09.
The Laker golf team hosted five schools for the ninth
annual Oswego State Fall Invitational at the Oswego
Country Club Sept. 18. Ideal weather and supreme course
conditions made the event a tremendous success. Oswego
State's Green squad finished in second place by one
stroke. The host Lakers were led by sophomore Bob
Fantone ’09 who shot a 77 under the ideal
conditions. Adam Seifts ’08
and Tyler Jenson ’10
each recorded rounds of 78, while sophomore Connor
Kelly ’09 contributed an 80. |
