During Oswego’s annual Commencement Eve dinner May 18 the Oswego Alumni Association presented Lacey Kimpland ’07 with the class of 2007 Outstanding Senior Award.
Kimpland has been a varsity athlete during her tenure as a student, competing on the women’s basketball team and serving as captain the last two years. She is also a founding member of the Student Athletic-Advisory Council, a group focused on providing a student voice on athletic matters. Being a leader in the athletic department, Kimpland organized an education program for students on drinking and driving. This program was extremely successful and was attended by over 300 students. Because of Kimpland’s leadership in the athletic department, she was selected to attend the NCAA National Leadership Conference, an extremely competitive and highly prestigious conference.
Alumni Director Betsy Oberst and Associate Alumni Director Michelle Tackett-Spinner ’98 presented Kimpland with the award.
“Lacey’s nomination impressed the selection committee not only for her leadership within the athletic department, but for her commitment and involvement on campus outside of Laker Hall. In addition to the highly demanding schedule of a student athlete, Lacey has been very involved in a myriad of community service activities, including hosting events for local children on campus and being an active member of College Students Against Cancer,” Tackett-Spinner said.
Kimpland was nominated by Professor Lorrie Clemo, president of the Intercollegiate Athletic Board.
“Lacey is a stellar student, a talented athlete, a gifted leader, and a marvelous ambassador of our institution. She exhibits the ethical behavior, intellectual ability, and moral character to serve our institution and society well,” Clemo said.
Kimpland is an education major and will graduate cum laude in December.
