President Deborah F. Stanley |
Dear Oswego alumni,
Signs of spring are all around us on the Oswego campus,
from the cherry blossoms around Hewitt Union to the
flowers surrounding the statue of Edward Austin Sheldon.
Not long ago, students sprawled on colorful blankets
around Glimmerglass Lagoon, studying for exams or just
enjoying the warmth after a snowy Oswego winter. We
have just opened a beautifully renovated Poucher Hall,
and the Campus Center is rising in the very heart of
campus, the first new building in over 30 years.
Spring is the season of new beginnings, and so we have
chosen this month to launch Lake
E-ffect, the e-newsletter exclusively for Oswego
alumni. In this issue you’ll read about how we
honored two of our own, alumni Errol
Taylor ’77 and Christian
Mensah ’84, with honorary doctorates from
SUNY at Commencement May 20. You’ll get the great
news that alumnus and New York State Senator Jim
Wright ’71 secured $25 million in the state
budget for our new science facilities. And you can read
about our plans to welcome you back for Reunion this
year.
But what’s really new is this way for us to communicate
with you, to send you the latest news about your alma
mater each month. It goes hand in hand with our new
online community for alumni, OsweGoConnect.
While our college is steeped in tradition, we are excited
to take advantage of new technology when it makes it
possible for us to serve our students, alumni and the
community better. Founder Edward Austin Sheldon was
on the cutting edge of education, when he began this
school based on the then-revolutionary object method
of teaching. So we like to think he’d be pleased
with our use of the Internet to keep alumni informed
about happenings at Oswego and connected with the school
and each other.
I hope you enjoy Lake E-ffect
and that you will use it and OsweGoConnect to stay in
touch with Oswego and the friends you made here.
Sincerely,
Deborah F. Stanley
