Signs of spring are all around us on the Oswego
campus, from the cherry blossoms around Hewitt
Union to the flowers surrounding the statue of
Edward Austin Sheldon. Not long ago, students
sprawled on colorful blankets around Glimmerglass
Lagoon, studying for exams or just enjoying the
warmth after a snowy Oswego winter. We have just
opened a beautifully renovated Poucher Hall, and
the Campus Center is rising in the very heart
of campus, the first new building in over 30 years.

FUNDED
The 2006-07 New York state budget includes $25
million for renovations to SUNY Oswego’s
science buildings, Snygg and Piez halls. New York
State Sen. Jim Wright ’71
secured the funding.
The renovations made possible by the capital funding
will provide the college with a first-class facility
that will allow it to compete with any institution

Two Oswego alumni were honored May 20 at Commencement
2006. Prominent New York City attorney Errol
Taylor ’77 and United Nations legal
officer Christian Mensah ’84
received honorary doctor of laws degrees from
SUNY and addressed the graduating class.
“Work hard, follow your dreams and
remember that you’re not done,” Taylor
said in his address at the morning ceremony for
the Schools of Education and Business. “This
is just the beginning, the beginning of your journey
to be who you really, really are.”

The Oswego Alumni Association held a contest to
name our new e-newsletter and the winning name
is... Lake E-ffect. There were over 300 name submissions
from alumni from class years ranging from 1948

ON HORIZON
Inspiring Horizons: The Campaign for Oswego
is on track toward its $17 million goal, as Oswego’s
first-ever capital campaign enters its fifth year.
It is also generating much more than funds to
enhance the educational experience for Oswego
students.

Alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends of
SUNY Oswego can now own a permanent remembrance
of the daylong celebration on campus Sept. 30,
which launched Inspiring Horizons: The Campaign
for Oswego.
