The Laker men's ice hockey team has taken a liking to
its new surroundings at the Campus Center Ice Arena
and is off to the best start in program history. Oswego
State won its first eight games, the longest winning
streak to start a season, and the Lakers' current overall
record of 13-0-3 is the longest unbeaten streak to start
a season.
Oswego State is ranked second nationally in the USCHO.com
Division III Men's Poll, matching its highest ranking
in that poll. The Lakers trail only Manhattanville (9-0-2)
in the national rankings. The Lakers also stand atop
the SUNY Athletic Conference at midseason with a 5-0-2
mark in league play.
With the team's success has come individual recognition
for some of the team's student-athletes. Forward Brendan
McLaughlin ’09 has twice been named SUNYAC
Player of the Week, earning the award Oct. 30 and Nov.
13. Ryan Ellis ’09
was SUNYAC Player of the Week Dec. 3, and goalie Ryan
Scott ’08 earned the conference honor for
Goaltender of the Week Oct. 30.
The Lakers rank second in the nation among all Division
III men's teams in scoring at 5.79 goals per game and
are tied for fourth in overall defense, allowing just
1.86 goals per game.
Oswego State hosted the inaugural Pathfinder Bank Oswego
Hockey Classic at the Campus Center Ice Arena on Dec.
29-30, and hosted Elmira, New England College, and St.
Thomas. Oswego defeated New England College and Elmira
to win the inaugural championship. The next Laker home
game is Jan. 16 against Hamilton.
