The Charles H. Jerred Planetarium will explore “The
Moon: Apollo and Beyond” during free programs
for the public every Sunday in April.
The Sunday shows will begin at 7 p.m. in Room 332 of
Piez Hall at the corner of Centennial Avenue and Takamine
Drive on the SUNY Oswego campus. Free parking is available.
“The show begins with a look at our place in the
solar system,” said Scott Roby, associate professor
of astronomy at SUNY Oswego and the planetarium’s
director. “A slide show on the historic Apollo
missions follows. We conclude with a discussion of American
and Chinese goals of resuming human exploration of the
moon.”
The planetarium seats only 30 people, and admission
is first come, first served. The doors of Piez Hall
will open at 6:30 p.m. Because of the nature of planetarium
programs, no admission will be allowed once the show
is in progress.
The program will last a little under an hour. Shows
are suitable for the entire family, though organizers
recommend that children be age 4 or older.
Aside from the weekly public programs, groups of 10
people or more can contact Roby to arrange free shows
at other times. For more information or to schedule
group visits of 10 or more people, call (315) 343-4294. |
