Three members of the Oswego State men’s
swimming and diving team turned in stellar efforts to
earn both individual and team recognition at the NCAA
Division III Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships
in Houston March 15 to 17. The Laker trio turned in
four All-American performances and earned 43 team points
to place the Lakers 24th in the team standings.
The Laker swim team is coached by Kami Gardner, and
the diving coach is John Moore.
Diver Kevin Morgan ’08
of Saratoga Springs led the way with two First Team
All-American honors by finishing fourth in the finals
of both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. On Thursday,
Morgan scored 448.40 points on the 1-meter board, and
on Saturday Morgan totaled 483.60 in the finals of the
3-meter competition. The top eight divers in each event
are awarded that distinction.
Teammate and classmate Chris
Dotson ’08 of Binghamton made his first
trip to the national meet and was an Honorable Mention
All-American on the 1-meter diving board. He finished
15th with a score of 381.75 points. He was also 22nd
in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 337.30.
Not to be outdone, swimmer Greg
Doyle ’08 of Ulster Park earned his first
career First Team All-American honor by placing eighth
in the finals of the 200-yard freestyle with a time
of 1:41.30. He qualified for the championship heat by
swimming a quick 1:40.58 in the preliminaries of that
event. It was the second All-American performance in
two years for Doyle, who earned Honorable Mention in
the same event in 2006. Doyle also turned in top-30
finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (28th, 21.32 seconds)
and 100-yard freestyle (24th, 46.43 seconds).
