Chris Thatcher '08 is finishing his time in Oswego by being involved in one of the school's oldest traditions. Thatcher has been selected as the student master of ceremonies for the 73rd Torchlight Ceremony May 16, which inducts seniors into the Oswego Alumni Association.
Thatcher, a public relations major, is from Standfordville and has developed a close bond with the campus community. He is the student director of the Oswego Telefund, a position that he has held for three semesters. Thatcher is also an active member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity.
Last year he served as the social chair for Delta Sigma Phi, planning community service events and acting as the liaison among organizations. He has volunteered for the Oswego County Health Fair; Best Kept Secret, a thrift store in Oswego that supports the Rescue Mission; and the March of Dimes.
In his free time, he enjoys skiing, playing his new Wii, watching movies, hanging out with his friends and swimming in the lake. He describes himself as a social person, "I'm going to miss not being able to walk from point A to point B without someone saying ‘hi' to me," said Thatcher. It was the atmosphere that attracted him to Oswego, but the lake was his selling point.
Thatcher is currently working at Lowe's and interning at a Syracuse public relations firm. He plans to pursue a career in entertainment publicity.
"I'm one that really enjoys being here, and I plan on coming back year after year," Thatcher said.
WNYT-TV anchor/reporter Benita Zahn '76 will be mistress of ceremonies at the Torchlight Ceremony. For more information on this year's event or to represent your class in the Inner Circle, click here or call 315-312-2258.
