Fehmi Damkaci has been appointed associate dean of graduate studies.

As associate dean, Damkaci will be responsible for assisting with the development of several new graduate degree and certificate programs. He will work with graduate office staff, Graduate Program Directors, and the Graduate Council to facilitate graduate recruitment, including oversight of the contact management system, participation in graduate recruiting fairs, information sessions, Oswego’s Graduate Study Week programs, and related activities.
He will also help coordinate scheduling and promotion of graduate offerings at the SUNY Oswego Metro Center in downtown Syracuse.
Before starting at SUNY Oswego in 2006, Damkaci was a post-doctoral student at Boston College after receiving his doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Maryland at College Park in 2004. Since 2009, he has served as the director of graduate studies in chemistry.
As a professor, in addition to guiding many of his research assistants into numerous graduate programs, Damkaci has introduced two 400-level courses into the curriculum – “Nanochemistry” and “Medicinal Chemistry” – published articles, given a number of talks and presentations, successfully acquired grants toward research, and was instrumental in the development of the Professional Science Master’s program in chemistry.
