Betsy Hayden Named Oswego State Head Volleyball Coach
Betsy Hayden has been hired as the new head coach for the Laker volleyball team. Hayden joins Oswego State after a season launching the inaugural men's and women's volleyball programs at Wells College.
Before returning to the Central New York area, Hayden served as the head women's volleyball coach at NCAA Division II Millersville University in Pennsylvania during the 2008 and 2009 seasons where she finished with an overall record of 26-42. During the 2007 season, Hayden directed the Wesley College program to the postseason and achieved the most wins in program history at the time with a record of 11-12.
Hayden also previously served as the women's volleyball and softball coach at Onondaga Community College for five seasons where she rebuilt two National Junior College Athletic Association programs that had previously been cancelled. While at OCC, she compiled over 100 victories and her teams either won or shared the regular season conference title every year and won three conference championship tournaments. Hayden's squads also appeared in the Regional Tournament every year, advanced to the regional championship match three times, won one Region III Tournament, and participated in one national championship.
As coach at OCC, Hayden won Coach of the Year honors at the conference, regional and districts level, while her squads produced several conference and regional players of the year, as well as conference and regional all-stars, tournament MVPs, tournament all-stars, national championship tournament all-stars, and multiple All-Americans. She also served as the varsity volleyball coach at Cato-Meridian Central High School.
Hayden holds an associate's degree in applied science from OCC, a bachelor's in physical education from Syracuse University, a master's degree in health education from SUNY Cortland and a certificate of advanced studies from SUNY Cortland.
She is a state-certified school district administrator, physical education teacher, and health education teacher. Hayden is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association and has served as a staff member of the organization. since 2009.
Currently, Hayden serves as the dean of students at the Syracuse Academy of Science.
