Discovery Exec Urges Scholars to Embrace Challenge
Discovery Communications executive and Honors Convocation keynote speaker Jocelyn Sokolski Egan '84 reminded more than 100 of SUNY Oswego's top scholars of their potential and urged them to follow their respective roads to success, bumpy though they may be.
"Some paths are easier than others; few are level," said Egan, senior vice president of Discovery Solutions, the Discovery Communications division dedicated to network-wide advertising sales and partnerships. "Passion is the love you have for what you do and it fuels your journey."
Some students struggle with money issues, health problems or academic difficulties. But, it's how we handle these challenges that makes us stronger, she said while speaking at the annual Honors Convocation April 15 in the Campus Center.
A former strategist for Gillette, Frito-Lay and Pizza Hut campaigns, Egan stressed the importance of building a strong network to face life's hurdles.
"Ordinary people can do extraordinary things with the right support," she said.
"I urge you to continue to give back to each other - professionally and through service," added Egan, a member of the School of Business Advisory Board and participant in the Oswego Alumni Association NYC Career Connections event as well as the Alumni Sharing Knowledge program.
