Basketball Marches to the NCAAs, Makes History
Despite a tough loss in last week's SUNY Athletic Conference Championship semifinal game, men's basketball will make SUNY Oswego history tonight in the program's first-ever NCAA tournament appearance.
The Oswego Alumni Association is co-sponsoring a webstream of the WTOP-TV broadcast live from Max Ziel Gymnasium as the Lakers (23-4) host Wells College (17-11) at 7:30 p.m.
The game will feature the recently named SUNYAC Player of the Year in Chad Burridge '12, and Coach of the Year Adam Stockwell. Hayden Ward '13 was named to the All-SUNYAC Third Team.
The team's SUNYAC Championship hopes were dashed in a 74-70 loss to SUNY Brockport in the conference semifinals last week. But the Lakers remarkable season, which included a 16-game win streak, earned them one of 18 at-large berths in NCAA Division III tournament.
It is the first time participating in the program's 88-year history at Oswego.
In the other first-round game today, Penn State-Behrend (23-4) will square off against Rhode Island College (19-7). The winners of each game play Saturday in Oswego at 7 p.m..
That contest will also be broadcast by WTOP-TV with a webstream provided by the Oswego Alumni Association and the college's athletics department.
Nearby basketball fans can purchase tickets for $6.
