Year: Senior Major: Adolescent Education in Mathematics Hometown: Binghamton, NY
What activities are you involved with at Oswego? During my four years at Oswego I have been involved in theatre, tutoring, and Residence Life and Housing.
Why did you choose Oswego? I chose Oswego for three reasons...the theatre department puts on several professional productions each year and lets all majors be invovled; the education department has a reputation both in the state and around the country for having an amazing program; and the beautiful campus is a bonus too.
What is the best ting about your major? The best thing about being an education major here at Oswego is being in an actual classroom setting every semester, starting your junior year.
Describe your department's atmosphere and how it has enhanced your ability to learn. The education department is a very supportive and open department. Professors are not there to lecture how everything has to be done. They have open classrooms where students and faculty share opinions and have discussions about the education system and how teaching should/can be done. This has helped me shape my own teaching philosophy on which to use in my career.
Common on how your Oswego experience has helped prepare you for a career. At Oswego, not only did I learn what I need to know to do my job, but I also learned how to interact with professionals and succeed in the world outside of our campus. SUNY Oswego gives students several opportunities throughout their four years to discover and polish these skills which sets them apart from other graduates.
What opportunities has Oswego given you that you never had before? Oswego has given me the opportunity to form my own opinion about my education and my future.
