What activities are you involved with at Oswego?
I have been a part of the Admissions program since my second semester freshmen year.  In my time I've been Funnelle Hall Council president, a Welcome Crew Coordinator, and a math tutor for the Office of Learning Services. I am currently a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the education honors society and enjoy eating calzone for the show The Zonies Project on the campus' TV station, WTOP.

Why did you choose Oswego?
I really liked the Education program and the campus. There were also a lot of little reasons, such as the large variety of cereal in the dining halls, dodge ball tournaments, my dad being alumni, and the lake, among other things.

What is the best thing about your major?
You are in the classroom for three semesters before you start student teaching, which is awesome.  The professors are also great.  They all have unique teaching styles, which allow students to learn many different aspects of teaching.  They really want you to succeed.

Generally speaking, what impact has Oswego faculty had on you?
The faculty is great!  Every semester, I have at least one professor who really wows me.  I have never had a professor who didn't make an effort to help their students.  They all have office hours and encourage students to attend.  I feel comfortable approaching any professor to ask a question.

Who's your favorite professor and why?
The best professor I've had was Professor Bero, who is a science teacher in the Education department.  Everything he taught me has been useful.  He is a kind, encouraging man who believes in his students.  His positive attitude and teaching style allow him to connect with each student, which really meant a lot to me.  He also used his own background and experiences to make the course work more meaningful to us.  He is the kind of person you want to have in your life forever, and I wish I could have him as a professor again!  However, Professor Roby is a close second because he presented the material so well in my Astronomy class. He was just a fun person.

Describe your department's atmosphere and how it has enhanced your ability to learn.
Wilber Hall is my favorite place to have classes.  When I walk into the advisement center, I know someone is going to help me and answer any of my questions.  With guidance, it takes away the stress of signing up for classes.  The professors in the Education department are great because they really care about their students.  Because of the size of the classes, you develop a sense of community, which makes it easier to discuss important issues and present in front of each other.

What's the best thing about SUNY Oswego?
It's hard to choose one thing that I think is the best, but it's probably the people I've met and the friends I've made.  There are a lot of great people on this campus, whether they are professors, classmates, RAs, or just people down the hall.

Comment on how your Oswego experience has helped prepare you for a career.
I take away different methods of teaching and new ideas for the students with each education class I take. Classes have taught me time management and how to be responsible.  The activities I have been involved with have helped me develop leadership skills, which I am thankful for.

What opportunities has Oswego given you that you never had before?
The school has made it so easy to get involved on and off campus.  I have already participated in more meaningful activities here at Oswego than I did in four years of high school.
