When should I apply?
If you plan to attend Oswego, we recommend you apply by March 1 to receive maximum consideration for all types of financial that we offer.
However, if you are unable to apply by that date you should still apply. If you do not apply by March 1, you may still be considered for all types of aid available at that time.

In order to receive financial aid do I have to apply each year?
Yes. A student must apply for financial aid each "Academic year" they plan to attend. The academic year at Oswego begins with Summer and includes the following Fall and Spring semesters.
Do I have to apply every semester?

What are the Oswego Federal School Code and TAP code?
The Oswego Federal School Code is 002848 and the Oswego TAP codes are 0935 (undergraduate) or 5420 (graduate)
Do I need to submit tax returns?
Some students (and parents) are required to submit signed copies of tax returns and other information to be reviewed. If we need you to submit any documents, we will notify you by mail. To check online to see if we need any additional information from you, go to myOswego.
What does it take to be considered an independent student?
You must be able to answer YES to at least one of the following:
- Were you born before January 1, 1984?
- As of today, are you married? (Answer "YES" if you are separated but not divorced)
- Do you have any children who receive more than half of their support from you?
- Do you have dependents (other than your children or spouse) who live with you and who receive more than half of their support from you, now and through June 30, 2007?
- Are you an orphan or ward of the court or were you ward of the court until age 18?
- Are you a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces?
We've been told we probably will not qualify for Grants and Scholarships. Should we bother to apply?
We encourage everyone to apply at least once to determine if they are eligible.
Will I be eligible for the same amount of financial aid yearly?
Each academic year you must complete a new application. Your eligibility is based on the information you provide on the application, the number of credit hours you are taking, and your previous academic performance. If any of these things change, or eligibility rules change, your awards may change.
Can I receive financial aid during the Summer?
Yes. If you plan to attend Summer classes, please complete a Summer Financial Aid Application. This form will be available about March 15th.
Can I receive financial aid for the Winter session?
There is some financial aid. Contact the Financial Aid Office.
How much financial aid can I get?
Eligibility is determined by the information you report on your FAFSA form, the number of credit hours you are taking, and your previous academic performance at Oswego State College (returning students). What about my books?
When you receive your bill, you will receive instructions on creating a College Store FlexPlan for charging books in the College Store.
Will I be eligible for the same amount of aid at every college?
Aid may vary from one college to another due to
varying costs and funding from the federal
government.
Is there an income level cutoff to qualify for financial aid?
There are many factors that affect a student's eligibility. We encourage everyone to apply no matter what your income.
Can I receive financial aid for study abroad?
Yes, you can. Contact the Office of International Education or by phone at 315-312-5775.
How many credit hours do I need to take to be eligible for Financial Aid?
Different Types of financial aid, may require you to be enrolled for a different number of hours.
Pell - You must be enrolled for at least 3 credit hours
TAP - You must be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours
Stafford Loans - You must be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours
APTS - You must be enrolled for at least 3 credit hours
