Merit Scholarships for New Students
$2.5 million in merit scholarships available to outstanding students
Freshman and transfer students should complete the application for admission as early as possible for the following fall term. There are no additional scholarship forms required. Admissions applications received by Jan. 15 receive priority for scholarship consideration. Around one-third of the entering class received merit-based scholarship money, with an average renewable award of $2,300. All freshman awards are renewable with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Awards include:

  • $17,600 Presidential Scholarships ($4,400 annually for up to four years)
  • $5,000 Deans' Scholarships ($1,250 annually for up to four years)
  • $2,000 Merit Scholarships ($500 annually for up to four years)
  • $27,560 Residential Scholarships; Out of State and US Residents only;
    Requires Full-Time Status and On-Campus Housing
  • $26,000 International Student Undergraduate Scholarship; International Students only ($6,500 annually for up to four years)
    Requires Full-Time Status and On-Campus Housing ($7,000 annual for students entering in the fall 2010 term)
  • $1,000 Merit Scholarships for transfer students

Freshman Scholarships

Priority for freshman scholarship consideration will be given to candidates with a strong record of classroom achievement and competitive test scores of either the SAT or ACT exam. These programs typically include: four units each of English and social studies, along with seven units combined of math, science and two units of foreign language.

Possibility Scholarship

The Possibility Scholars program makes available an exceptional scholarship and academic program for applicants entering Oswego as freshmen for the fall term from the Syracuse or Oswego City School Districts. Only students entering STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) are eligible for consideration, with priority given to high achieving students with significant financial need. Transfer Scholarships

Two-year transfer students with a cumulative 3.3 GPA and 57 or more college credits are eligible for a one-time scholarship worth $1,000. To be eligible, simply complete an application for admission to be considered; no scholarship forms are required.

Renewable Residential Scholarships require on-campus residency and are available for applicants who are both non-NYS residents and U.S. citizens or registered aliens. The scholarship is valued at full-room cost, currently $6,890 annually.

Renewable International Student Undergraduate Scholarships, available for international students, are worth $6,500 annually and require on-campus residency.
