Apply for Parent Loans (PLUS)

The Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) is an option parents may want to consider to help pay for college.
The PLUS is a federal program for parents and offers benefits the alternative student loan programs do not.  We encourage you to compare loan programs by reading Which Loan Should I Consider.

(Follow the instructions in the student's financial aid award
       package)

After you accept the PLUS, the Oswego Financial Aid Office will process the application.

Beginning about July, the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) will send a letter "To the Parent of" with instructions on how to complete the PLUS Electronic Master Promissory Note and Application (PLUS e-MPN). Please wait to receive this letter to complete the PLUS e-MPN.

As part of the PLUS e-MPN process, the parent will choose a PLUS lender.  We have established relationships with suggester lenders (MS Word 21K) to benefit our students and families.

HESC will perform a credit check as part of the PLUS e-MPN process and tell you if your application is approved. If your application is denied, contact the Financial Aid Office to discuss other options.
