CANADIAN PROFESSOR TO ADDRESS PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE
OSWEGO -- Dr. James Robert Brown of the University
of Toronto will be the featured speaker Saturday, Oct. 4, at SUNY
Oswego's 16th annual Warren Steinkraus Lectures on Human Ideals. He
will speak on "Community of Science" at the program, which will begin
at 2:15 p.m. in the east conference room of Sheldon Hall on campus.
The program is open to the public free of charge.
A member of the philosophy department at Toronto for
22 years, Brown edited the journal International Studies in the
Philosophy of Science for five years. Among his books are "Who Rules in
Science?" and "Smoke and Mirrors: How Science Reflects Reality."
The annual lecture program is held in honor of the
late Warren Steinkraus, a professor of philosophy at Oswego who died in
1990. He was active in several philosophy societies, founded the
Gandhi-King Society and was associate editor of the journal Idealistic
Studies.
