STUDENT CLUB OFFERS CHANCE TO VIEW MARS FRIDAY
OSWEGO -- The Astronomy Club at SUNY Oswego is
sponsoring a public viewing of Mars and other celestial wonders from 10
to 11 p.m. Friday at the Romney Field House parking lot on Route 104.
"The Astronomy Club is calling this a 'last chance
to see Mars!' event, since we are at the tail end of a month-long close
approach of Mars to Earth," said Dr. Scott Roby, faculty adviser to the
Astronomy Club and associate professor of astronomy. "The next time
Mars gets nearly this close will be in 2018."
Everyone is invited, he said. He advised
participants to dress warmly because much of the telescopic viewing
will take place outdoors. The Romney Field House parking lot is located
on Route 104, opposite the Thomas Inn.
If the sky is too cloudy, the club will try again on
Saturday and then Sunday, he added.
