ALUMNI TO PERFORM, HONOR RETIRED PROFESSOR GOSEK
OSWEGO -- SUNY Oswego campus and community members
are invited to an admission-free concert in honor of longtime music
Professor Stan Gosek's retirement. The concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept.
14, in Tyler Hall's Waterman Theatre will mark the end of a weekend
reunion of Solid State and State Singers alumni.
"I can't think of a better way to celebrate the man
and his musical contribution to our lives," said Dani Gottuso-Boudov of
the class of 1998, who organized the reunion. "Stan will, for once, be
able to sit back and enjoy his own music being performed for him by the
'Stan Generation.'"
The program will include a range of Gosek's
compositions and arrangements from the past 30 years.
Gosek joined the Oswego faculty in 1981 and has been
the director of Solid State since 1984, taking over from group founder
Hugh Burritt. He directed State Singers since 1991, after working
closely for many years with the group's founder, Dr. James Soluri.
The two groups made successful tours to the
Caribbean island of Montserrat in the British West Indies in 1986 and
1989. In conjunction with the Emerald Singers, the groups produced a
CD, "Leeward Rendezvous," at the famous Air Studios on Montserrat.
Well-known to area audiences as the keyboard player
and leader of the Freefall jazz combo, the Freefall Orchestra and the
Oswego County Summer Stage Band, Gosek also has been active for many
years as a member of the program committee for Harborfest.
