SECURITY AND TECHNOLOGY TOPIC OF COLLEGE LECTURE
OSWEGO -- In SUNY Oswego's College of Arts and Sciences first lecture of the fall, Dr. James Der Derian will speak on "911+1: The Perplexities of Security" at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, in Bell Auditorium of Hewitt Union.
He is research professor of international relations at the Thomas J. Watson Jr. Institute for International Studies at Brown University, where he directs the Information Technology, War and Peace Project, and professor of political science at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
He has received grants from the Social Science Research Council and the Ford, Rockefeller and MacArthur Foundations for his work on war, media and technology. His most recent book is "Virtuous War: Mapping the Military-Industrial-Media-Entertainment Network."
The college's global and international studies program is cosponsoring the lecture, which will be free and open to all. A reception will follow.
