FAMILY WEEKEND TO BRING
VISITORS TO OSWEGO STATE
OSWEGO -- Oswego State and the community will host hundreds of students' families during Parents, Family and Friends Weekend, Oct. 13 to 15.
Traditionally on Parents Weekend, Oswego State provides activities for everyone to enjoy. It allows a time to showcase student organizations, faculty and what the university and city of Oswego have to offer.
Visitors will be exposed to all types of events, ranging across music, athletics, sightseeing, art, spiritual information and opportunities to interact with the faculty and use the recreational facilities.
On Friday, families can visit the Art Department Faculty Exhibition and an exhibit of prints from the Tyler Art Gallery permanent collection at the gallery from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some of the other activities on Friday will be women's soccer and volleyball matches at 4 p.m. and a student presentation of "The Picture of Dorian Gray" at Waterman Theatre at 8 p.m.
Rice Creek Field Station will be open for visitors from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
On Saturday, families can meet faculty, staff and President Deborah Stanley at a coffee gathering in Hewitt Union's Forum at 10 a.m.
New this year will be a guided tour of historic Oswego, including the Marine Museum with its artifacts and documents of the Port City. The tour will start at noon Saturday in Hewitt Union. A second tour leaving at 2 p.m. will feature a restored Italian villa style home of about 1850, complete with period furnishings.
There will also be a campus and community spiritual fair on Saturday starting at noon in Hewitt Union. The fair will include many local and campus religious groups.
On Saturday evening, a dinner buffet will be offered in the Hewitt Union ballroom at 6 p.m. at a cost of $15 for adults and $7 for children under 10. At 8 p.m., visitors can choose between a student presentation of "The Picture of Dorian Gray" in Waterman Theatre and a ventriloquist performance in Hewitt Union's food court.
At 10 p.m. in Hewitt Union there will be a late night concert with Solid State and StateSingers. Oswego State's finest student musicians will perform big band jazz and contemporary vocals.
On Sunday, some of the activities will include a men's ice hockey scrimmage at 2 p.m., $4 for general admission, and a performance by Oswego College-Community Orchestra, Oswego College Choir and Chamber Singers and the Oswego Gospel Choir at 1 p.m. in the Hewitt Union ballroom.
Students are encouraged to invite their parents, family and friends to attend these activities. Guests are encouraged to register at the Office of Campus Life in Hewitt Union.
This weekend gives the students a chance to show off what they have accomplished so far in school as well as the educational quality and the many programs that Oswego provides.
