CHILDREN'S AUDITIONS SET
FOR OSWEGO'S 'KING AND I'
OSWEGO -- SUNY Oswego's Waterman Summer Theatre will hold auditions for children's roles in the upcoming summer musical "The King and I" on Monday, May 14. Auditions for children ages 6 through 16 will be held from 3:30 to 6 p.m. in Room 102 of Tyler Hall. No preparation is needed for this age group.
Auditions for the roles of Louis and the Prince will be held for boys with unchanged voices from age 10 to 13 at 6 p.m. in Room 102. Those interested in being cast for these roles are asked to bring a selection to perform, preferably a piece from "The King and I."
Adult roles were cast in late April. The part of Anna will be played by Anastasia Meehan, a theatre student at Oswego. Tom Nami of Fulton will play the role of the King.
Rogers and Hammerstein's "The King and I" will run from July 18 to 22 in Waterman Theatre at SUNY Oswego under the musical direction of Dr. Julie Pretzat and the guest direction of Ron Medici. A preview show will be held Tuesday, July 17. The popular pre-show dinner buffet will be offered July 19 and 20 in Hewitt Union. Tickets will go on sale Monday, June 11, at the Tyler Hall box office.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the musical. "The King and I" opened on March 29, 1951, at the St. James Theatre on Broadway. Half a century later, it still resonates with audiences of all ages.
