THE OSWEGONIAN ADVANCES IN NATIONAL COMPETITION
OSWEGO -- The Oswegonian, SUNY Oswego's weekly student newspaper, has been named a national finalist in the Society of Professional Journalists' Mark of Excellence Awards for outstanding student journalism. The Oswegonian is one of three finalists for Best All-Around Non-Daily Student Newspaper (published less than twice a week).
The other finalists are Truman State University's Index and The Sentinel at North Idaho College.
Before reaching the national competition, students placed first in SPJ's regional competitions, which were judged in the spring. The Oswegonian was named the best non-daily student newspaper in the highly competitive Northeast region. This was the first time any SUNY newspaper won the regional award.
This year's competition drew nearly 2,700 entries in 45 categories for print, radio, television and online collegiate journalism. The national winners will be announced and receive their awards Sept. 13 as part of the 2003 SPJ national convention in Tampa, Fla.
