PRECEDES 'KING AND I'
OSWEGO -- An Asian-themed buffet dinner will be served before the Waterman Summer Theatre's production of "The King and I" at SUNY Oswego. The pre-theatre buffet dinner will be offered at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 19, and Friday, July 20 in The Forum in Hewitt Union on campus.
Buffet items expected to be on the menu include Thai-style carrot and mango salad, hot and sour soup, roast chicken with ginger and lime, Thai spiced salmon, jasmine rice with lemon basil, hot and sour noodles, Asian vegetables with bean sauce, assorted breads and butter, green tea, coffee and Thai rice pudding.
Seating for the buffet is limited and early reservations are encouraged. Tickets for the buffet and show are on sale at the Tyler Hall box office. Dinner/show combination tickets are $28 for adults, $26 for seniors and students and $24 for children under 12. Curtain time is 8 p.m. for "The King and I" on July 19 and 20.
Tickets for the show only also are available. Show-only prices are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students and $8 for children under 12.
Several local youngsters are part of the cast in this summer's production of "The King and I." Youth members include Andrew Barron, Roopa Bhopale, Miriam Carvalho, Jessica Donovan, Rebecca Donovan, Dustin Kavanaugh, Richard Mandanas, Kim Markowski, Emily Merchant and Stephan Merchant.
Tom Nami of Fulton will take on the role of the king, while SUNY Oswego student Anastasia Meehan is cast as Anna. The adolescent parts of Louis and the prince are played by Matt Dengler and Marc Haynes, respectively.
Portraying wives will be Lorrie Anderson, Katherine Baer, Danielle DeGone, Jennifer Giannetto, Rebecca Hamlin, Rachel Koes and Tess Korbesmeyer.
Other key roles are Mark Mirabito as Kralahome, Kevin Keleher as Lun Tha, Jennifer McNiven as Tuptim and Ben Merchant as Edward Ramsey. Zac Levin will play a guard and a priest in the summer production.
"The King and I" will run Wednesday, July 18, through Sunday, July 22, at the Waterman Theatre in Tyler Hall. Curtain times are 8 p.m. July 18 to 21 and 2 p.m. Sunday, July 22.
The production is directed by Ron Medici with musical direction by Julie Pretzat. William Russell Stark Sr. directs scene and lighting design, while Michaeleen Melita is the show's costume designer.
