SITHE CONTINUES TO SUPPORT OSWEGO STATE FALL CLASSIC
OSWEGO -- Planning is well under way for the Oswego
State Fall Classic, to be held Sept. 11 and 12 in support of
scholarships at SUNY Oswego. Sithe, which has long been a major sponsor
of the annual event, will continue as a Presidential Level sponsor, the
highest level of support.
"Sithe has a long history as a loyal sponsor of the
Oswego State Fall Classic and we are grateful to them for their
commitment," said SUNY Oswego President Deborah F. Stanley. "Their
support, along with that of all of our sponsors, will help provide the
funding that brings the best and brightest students to Oswego."
Marty Rosenberg, president and chief executive
officer of Sithe, said, "There is nothing more important to our
nation's future -- and its future leaders -- than providing our youth
with the right educational foundation. At Sithe, our commitment to
Oswego State, its remarkable students and the entire community for many
years has been a point of enduring satisfaction for all of us. We
believe in the quality education provided by Oswego State, and we're
proud to continue our investment in the potential of its outstanding
students."
The Fall Classic raises funds for Oswego's
Presidential Scholars Program, providing scholarships for students who
have demonstrated academic success. Since 1996, all proceeds from the
Fall Classic have helped to fund the Presidential Scholars Program, an
initiative designed to attract academically accomplished students to
SUNY Oswego.
These Presidential Scholars rank in the top 10
percent of their high school classes. For the 2002-03 year, SUNY Oswego
awarded 146 Presidential Scholarships of $3,400 per year for four years
and 33 scholarships of $1,250 per year for four years. For 2003-04, the
Presidential Scholarship has been increased to $4,400 per year.
Since the fall semester of 1997, the Fall Classic
has provided over $1 million in scholarship money for 900 Presidential
Scholarships.
A celebration of the opening of Rich Hall on Sept.
11, sponsored
by Sithe, will kick off two days of Fall Classic events. Sithe
previously donated $32,000 to sponsor a flexible-seat classroom in the
renovated building, the new home for Oswego's School of Business.
Friday recreational activities will offer
opportunities for networking in a relaxed atmosphere at the fishing
expedition on Lake Ontario, clay pigeon spectacular at Pathfinder Fish
and Game Club, golf tournament at Oswego Country Club, and Fall Classic
finale.
The Fall Classic has generated gross receipts of over $2.3
million since 1990 through the support of sponsors, who choose from
eight levels of support. Presidential Sponsors are the highest level of
sponsorship.
