OSWEGO -- Constellation Energy Group has pledged its support as a major sponsor of the 13th annual Oswego State Fall Classic, which will take place Sept. 12 and 13 on campus and in the community.
Constellation will join other Presidential Sponsors, including Sithe and the New York State Laborers' Employers Cooperation and Education Trust Fund, in supporting the fund-raising effort.
"Last year, Constellation joined the Oswego family of sponsors, supporting the Fall Classic. This year, we are pleased to welcome Constellation to a higher level of support as our newest Presidential Sponsor," said SUNY Oswego President Deborah F. Stanley. "Their support, along with that of all our loyal sponsors, will help provide the funding that brings the best and brightest students to Oswego."
John Conway, Nine Mile Point site vice president, said, "At Constellation Energy Group we have a strong commitment to community partnership. Education is one of our priority focus areas for social investment, and the Presidential Scholarship Program is a natural for achieving the result of long-term benefits to Oswego State, Nine Mile Point and the community of Oswego."
Since 1996 all proceeds from the Fall Classic have helped to fund the Presidential Scholars Program, an initiative designed to attract academically accomplished students to SUNY Oswego. These Presidential Scholars rank in the top 10 percent of their high school classes.
Since the fall of 1997, over $841,550 in scholarship money has been awarded in 682 Presidential Scholarships. Last year's class of 177 Presidential Scholars was the largest in the program's history.
In 2001, 98 sponsors participated in the Fall Classic and produced a net of nearly a quarter million dollars in support of the program.
The Sithe Luncheon on Sept. 12 will kick off two days of Fall Classic events. Friday recreational activities will offer opportunities for networking in a relaxed atmosphere at the fishing expedition on Lake Ontario, golf tournament at Oswego Country Club and Fall Classic finale get-together.
The Fall Classic has generated gross receipts of over $2 million since 1990 through the support of sponsors, who choose from eight levels of support. Presidential Sponsors are the highest level of sponsorship.
