TURKISH DELEGATION TO VISIT SUNY OSWEGO
OSWEGO -- A delegation from two universities in
Turkey is scheduled to visit SUNY Oswego Sept. 9 and 10 to explore
Oswego's program in teaching English to speakers of other languages
(TESOL), according to Dr. Walter Opello, Oswego's director of
international education.
The State University of New York as a system is
working on dual degree programs in various disciplines with Turkish
universities. Campuses at New Paltz and Binghamton have already
established such dual degree programs, Opello said.
Oswego is the only SUNY campus with a TESOL program,
making the local campus attractive to Turkish educators who need to
train more English teachers.
"There is a crying need for instruction in English
in Turkey. They don't have the capacity to do it all," Opello said.
Opello visited the Turkish universities in June
along with Dr. Jean Ann and Dr. Bruce Peng of Oswego's TESOL program.
