CHILDREN'S AUDITIONS SET FOR "MACBETH"
OSWEGO -- The SUNY Oswego theatre department will host auditions Sept. 1 for children in its October production of William Shakespeare's "Macbeth."
The production, directed by theatre department Chair Mark Cole, requires children to play Lady Macduff's son and daughter. The part of the son (a young-looking 10-year-old) is a speaking role. The daughter (8 to 10 years old) is a non-speaking role in the audition scene but may be assigned lines in other scenes.
The script for the audition scene itself and other information about the audition are available at the theatre office, Room 105 in Tyler Hall.
It is suggested that parents and children read the scene over before the audition. Members of the cast will work with a stage combat choreographer so that all stage violence will be done safely.
"Macbeth" is a timeless psychological thriller centering on the clash between good and evil. The production will open in mid-October.
The audition time is 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, in Room 102 of Tyler Hall. All children auditioning will be asked to read from the Lady Macduff scene.
To make an audition appointment and to arrange to get a copy of the scene, call the SUNY Oswego theatre department at 312-2140.
