OSWEGO -- Oswego State President Deborah F. Stanley has been appointed to a leadership position in the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.
Julio S. Leon and Gladys Styles Johnston, chair and chair-elect of the AASCU board of directors, invited her to serve as chair of the association's Committee on Policies and Purposes for 2000-01, and she accepted.
The Committee on Policies and Purposes is one of four national AASCU committees that assist staff in carrying out the ongoing work of the association. This committee serves as a "think tank" to help AASCU remain on the cutting edge of issues in higher education or society at large that will have an impact on member campuses.
The committee will hold its organizational meeting at AASCU 's annual meeting in November in Phoenix, Ariz.
President of Oswego State since 1997, Stanley also serves on the American Council on Education's Commission on Leadership and Institutional Effectiveness and has been a consultant and a mentor with ACE's National Center for Higher Education in Washington.
She has made presentations on many contemporary issues in higher education including intolerant speech, affirmative action, scholarship review, Title IX, faculty evaluation, town-gown relations and economic impact.
