OSWEGO -- Student creations will bloom at SUNY Oswego's Tyler Art Gallery during the month of April.
The 39th annual Juried Student Art Exhibition will run April 12 through May 5. The public is invited to a reception for the artists from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 12, in Tyler Hall, with an awards ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Several students will be recognized for their achievement in graphics, creative work in the fine arts, service to the art department and outstanding academic achievement.
Sponsored by the Student Association Art Exhibition Committee, the exhibition will feature recent original work in the media of photography, ceramics, painting, graphic design, drawing, sculpture, video and mixed media.
The annual art competition is open to any undergraduate student enrolled at SUNY Oswego. Invited jurors, chosen by the SA committee, selected the exhibited works among the 200 entries.
This year's jurors were 1976 SUNY Oswego graduate Pat Bacon -- a photographer, multimedia artist and teacher -- and Jennifer Broderick, who has worked as an art director at Infantino Associates in Rochester and currently is a free-lance artist.
Two 2002 Master of Arts Thesis Exhibitions also will show this month in Tyler Art Gallery. Candidates for the master of arts degree must present an exhibition of their work as part of their theses.
Opening April 12 and running through April 21 will be work from Cara Brewer Thompson and Rick Woolever. A reception for the artists will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. April 12.
A second group of graduate students -- Lee Hess Jr., Sam Wilson and Demian Broussard -- will open their exhibitions with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 24. Their show will continue through May 5.
Exhibitions and programs presented by Tyler Art Gallery are free and open to the public. Persons with disabilities who need assistance to attend any gallery event should call 312-2113. Gallery hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. weekends.
