OSWEGO -- The Oswego Festival Chorus will present a concert of great choral works in honor of retiring voice Professor Leon Carapetyan at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 12, in Tyler Hall's Waterman Theatre at SUNY Oswego. (Note change of time from previous announcements and calendars.)
The program for the concert represents many of Carapetyan's favorite choral works -- Handel's Coronation Anthem "Zadok the Priest," the motet "Ave Verum Corpus" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, excerpts from two cantatas by J.S. Bach and the "Gloria" of Antonio Vivaldi.
Carapetyan, who has been teaching at the college since 1963, will be featured as both a guest conductor and soloist at the performance.
After the concert, there will be a reception in The Forum in Hewitt Union. Tickets for the reception cost $10 and must be reserved and paid for by Monday, May 6.
Tickets to the concert cost $5 and can be purchased in advance or at the door. To reserve tickets for the concert and reception, call the Tyler Hall box office at 312-2141.
A scholarship in Leon Carapetyan's name has been established. Contributions to this new scholarship for junior and senior voice students majoring in music can be made to the Oswego College Foundation, King Alumni Hall, SUNY Oswego, Oswego, NY 13126. In the memo portion of the check, contributors are asked to write "Carapetyan #761." For more information, contact the music department at 312-2130.
