6 a) What types of spaces, learning resources, and activities are the best parts of the building?
Which should be improved or added?
Complete Answers: 207
See below:
• more computers, more lounge areas/study areas open 24 hours
• best parts are the cafe (group meetings) and lap top availabiity.
• The cafe is a great addition. it is great for group work and individual work as well.
• I love the cafe area. It is a great place to meet up with groups when working on projects, and a nice, relaxing place to work. I also love the help desk. The staff there are great, and never once did I have a question or problem that they could not help me with.
• The library is a great place. The Lake Effect Cafe is wonderful and I like my study carral (sp?). It's hard to concentrate in my room sometimes. The librarians are as helpful as they can be at most times. They do a great job. Mary Beth Bell is a good administrator for the library-- she seems to like what she is doing and she cares a lot about it. I think that the newspapers and journal collection on the 2nd floor (especially the journals) need to be updated. The library stopped carrying the most influential journal for my major a year ago.
• I am a big fan of the 24hr study room. I also like the quiet areas on the upper floors.
• I really enjoy the cafe. I believe there should be coaches and chairs throughout the library where people can sit and study. I used to go to LeMoyne and at LeMoynes Library they had tons of couches and chairs every now and then near book cases; all over. THey were always hidden so you had your privacy to study. They also have desks with the sides on them all over the library where you could hook up your computer. I really enjoyed that also.
• I think libraries should be quiet... sometimes groups (for example from my experiences sororities) can tend to get loud... I think that opening up the extra room for practicing powerpoints was a great idea... I'm sure there are still some logistical issues to be worked through, but no where else on campus can a student run through a presentation or even project it on a screen to make sure the colors don't wash out and the print is legible. Of course book selections should always be improving as new material comes out
• The most important roles the library plays for me is as a meeting place and as a quiet place I can write my papers. I would love to see an expanded area for small group meetings and projects.
• I use the online resources for finding journal articles all the time. These are extremely helpful, my only suggestion would be to expand the journal search as much as possible- more is better.
• The third floor is really great. I like the little study nooks and rooms and I'm glad that they're quiet! I'm also glad there's a computer up there so you don't have to go all the way back downstairs to look at the catalog. The 24-hour study room is really nice, especially with the new computers, although a printer in there would be nice. It would be nice if you had a newspaper rack going outside of the Lake Effect Cafe. Some people would like to be able to view today's newspapers without having to go in there. Other than that, the library is a really great place that serves all of my needs as a student.
• I feel the library has tons of adequate space upstairs and everything is fine.
• the computer labs, but needs more computer because they are all taken up a lot of times. Better on line catalog to find books.
• the computer lab should be upgraded to iMac G5s for system stability, speed, reliability, and usability.
• computer lab should be expanded.
• I use the Third Floor to find books the most. I think having computers downstairs to look up your books and then printing the call number and the retrieving them is a very good system. The computer lab needs to be expanded. There are never enough computers, especially during the day. Also, I think adding more comfortable furniture would help greatly. Specifically, couches, which would give students a place to hold casual group meetings. The wooded chairs are very uncomfortable, and don't help to relax the body or the mind.
• Best: 24-hour room, quiet study areas on 2nd and 3rd floors, computer lab & computers on 1st floor, laptop rentalImproved: the Lake effect - coffee is gross!Added: printer in 24-hour room, more private study rooms for individual and group studying
• The 24 hour study room is a great resource and should be kept. I also like the cafe and first floor computer workstations (apart from the computer lab). I think there needs to be more reading places in the library, little nooks or crannies that are comfortable with cushionny chairs that make it feel more like home than a library. The study carrels kind of act like this in that they are separate and quiet however they are very ugly and cold feeling, not welcoming at all. I also love the art work that is displayed onthe first floor. The paintings give the library a sense of sophistication.
• I like the lots of computers and the quiet study rooms.
• Computer room, and Coffe Shop. 3rd floor is Creepy 2nd floor is nice, 1st has stuff I don't know about
• the best parts are the study rooms that are quiet, i really like the no cell phone rule, but the most important part of the library is a quiet place to study.
• the third floor and the study rooms, the computer lab, i use the printer pages we have because i dont have a printer in my room, if i need to type a paper i get it done faster in the lab. Also, the wireless laptops are awesome, we should have wireless on the whole campus.
• 24 study lounge
• I like the use of the laptops that can be lent out for 2 hours at a time. I like the enviorment in the cafe the most for doing group projects.
• I honestly can't think of anything that needs to be changed. I am very satisfied with the environment and the availabilities of resources. However, I think the setup of the magazines should be improved because it is hard to find certain copies since they're scattered on a shelf and are easily knocked off.
• I like quiet places for studying and research. We need more computers. I enjoy the resources at the library but alot of students seem unaware of the fact that the library is not a place to talk on cell phones.
• ALl the vintage furniture, the charm of the third floor where one is not overwhelmed like in other buildings with their instance on being "modern".
• There should be rooms available for group meetings.
• more couches for upstairs. The juv section is quiet and a cozy place to be.
• Increase the amount of fiction and younger aged books, some of those are not just appealing to underage people.
• i like the art, the 24 hour room, the 3rd floor, the cafe. I just think that you should have more dvds to rent
• I think the tutoring center should be in the library
• I really like the small sitting area on the second floor. It's very coozy. I do think that maybe there should be a little more to it though. more sitting areas bg comfy couches, to give a relaxing comfortable atmosphere.
• The library cafe if extremely efficient for casual group meetings. The thurd floor, quiet floor is helpful as well as the study room. The computers in the computer lab do not all work properly and are slow.
• The third floor study lounge is wonderful.
• The best spaces are where a student can just plop down and do work or be able to read for fun in a comfortable area (i.e. couches/chairs)
• the library doesn't feel welcoming. it needs better aesthetic value, and more books for leisurely reading.
• I think the library is pretty good the way it is now. I'd like to see more computers, as the labs can fill up pretty fast, and a printer in the quiet study area, or nearby at least, where it wouldn't disturb the people working but would still allow some sort of print out.
• -24 hour study rooms are the best -lots of computers is a good thing, and helpful staff
• I'd like to see more computers. It's hard to find a free computer. Also, more bathrooms.
• i think it should have more comfortable seating, and less stuffy feeling up stairs. Its always dusty on the upper levels. maybe they should have a program for students on how to utilize the library, because i still do not know what all is available to me
• The places I spend most of my time when I'm at the library is either in a chair, reading, at a computer terminal working on a paper, or at a table, note-taking. I don't spend much of my time on the second floor of the library because it's too quiet. Everytime my coat rustles I look around, afraid I've upset somebody. I also took out a carrel. I've been there probably ten times but I stopped going because it's *very* quiet in there, so quiet it makes it too loud. And the desks are metal! They're the loudest thing up there, and in all that silence it's hard to think about anything other than the noise you're making. The #1 thing I would change about the library is either adding individual workspaces to the first floor, or making the second floor a more comfortable place to be.
• The computer are the only part I use but sometimes its hard to find one in the middle of the day. I would like to see more computer. The lab room could easily be rearranged to fit more computers.
• love the cafe
• There should be more computer labs available to the students.
• the quiet study rooms on the 3rd floor and the journal archives on the second floor are particularly useful (although I wish the quiet, no-groups rule was better enforced on the 3rd floor)
• the only improvement that i would like to see done is to extend the hours if possible
• I really enjoy the children's section on the second floor - it's comfortable and a great place to study. the computer lab is great, and i like the 24 hour room. my favorite event on campus, for the entire year, is the book sale - i look forward to it every time.
• not a radio station....
• there should be more computers available
• I was always going to the teacher resource center when I would visit, so I am most familiar with this area of the library. I think that this area and perhaps the entirte second floor should be mad to feel more inviting and less institutional. I understand thatthe library is a place to work as well as to learn, but I would stay away from there to do quiet alone work because of the atmoshere.
• the wi-fi hookup in the cafe is awesome. The studying places on the 2nd and third floor need to be updated to seem more inviting. They are dreery and a little scary.
• The library has very good computer labs and the 24 hour study is better now that there are computer terminals installed. I personally feel that the 3rd floor of the library is way to overlooked. I like studying up there but the furniture is uncomfortable and extremley outdated. I think if attention was paid to the 3rd floor by installing some new carpet and replacing the old furniture it would be more welcoming to students and would have a better appeal when giving tours to prospective students on campus. I think it would have a greater impact on admissions because it shows that the school is actively trying to make the learning environment as welcoming as possible.
• areas with large tables for group work, quiet areas, and the cafe
• The Reference Librarians are very helpful, and the study areas are very nice.
• I feel there is a pretty good mix of spaces and activities. Some areas in the subject of History should be expanded (Canada comes to mind). Quiet study rooms on the third floor should be improved.
• I like the TRC. It has good resources that are really helpful. I think it would be even more useful though if the teachers editions were not avaliable to take out - this way they are always avaliable b/c everyone in block 1 (my current block) needs to use the same books at the same time and it is difficult when people take them out for home use. I also think that there should be more computers/printers. sometimes, at rush times in the semester, it is very difficult to get a computer b/c everyone needs them.
• The cafe is nice for meetings and the environment is just right. The building is good to go for a quiet place to study.
• the 3rd floor quiet study is nice, as well as the study carrels. The cafe is nice when there aren't a lot of people there. The 24-hour room is a good resource.
• The cafe has been a positive improvement in the library that provides a more comfortable area to work and interact. I remember from my freshman year what that room used to be like and how the space did not work very well. I also like the variety and number of areas on each floor for studying. But I think since the radio station has taken over the one corner there is less space. Maybe if there was a way to provide more private individual areas around the library and designate group areas in another place.
• The computers are great. They are extremely fast and load places fast. The infotrac site is great also, it gives a lot of great information. One thing I don't like is the third floor because it is difficult to find the things that I am lookng for. Sometimes I think that I have something that may be useful, but isnt.
• a comfortable one, maybe some more cushy chairs
• As I have not yet made full use of the library's facilities, I cannot provide any input regarding this question.
• There should be an area for group projects. Like a room to reserve for a specified time where students can practice presentations. With a screen fo rthe powerpoint to be viewed on.
• The quiet third floor is good for studying, more computers with printers would be nice all over the building
• I like the newly decorated 2nd floor areas with new tables and carpeting. These spaces are much preferred to the old rickety furniture cubicles and flourescent orange carpeting. If students are comfortable and 'excited' that the library looks new and is inviting, they'll do more work - and better represent the college as a whole. Kudos to the library for all the improvements so far!
• The teaching resource needs to be improved. It would also be nice to have another computer lab with less macs.
• The cubicles on the 3rd floor are great. and i LOVE the cafe.
• I think the periodical section should be sorted by subject and then alphabetically rather than just a;phabetically for easier access. There should be more comfortable seating area for people who will be there for a long time. The accessibility for accessing the archives in the basement should be more available. Copies should be made cheaper. $.20 a copy is really expensive when some journal articles are 30 pages or more.
• The cafe is a good environment for studying and doing group projects. I like the atmosphere. I also have a study carrel, which I love. I don't generally spend much time on the second or third floor study areas because the fraternaties and sororities and other groups are very loud, particularly in the evening.
• I like the media part of the library, with the CD's and DVD's. I also like the study areas in the corners with the desks and couches.
• more journals and have them available online. There should be more laptops because at the end of the semester you have to wait for a while for a free one.
• Computer Lab, and the big tables/quiet area of the reference room and sometimes the small individual desks on the third floor when I really don't want to be bothered.
• it also has a good collection of sci fi books and a good cafe to hang out.
• I like the first floor. I don't like the 3rd floor because the shelves are so close together.
• the 24 hour room with computers is great. The quiet third floor is also good.
• The couches and other spaces set up to study in the library are great. But there are not always a table near them. I good idea might be end tables to put next to these benches and such so that we can place or books or laptops at hand near by.
• -I enjoy the tables and couches on the 2nd floor of the library in the children's book section.-I also like how accessible research articles are online.-The downstairs computer lab is often crowded-a bigger space with more available computers would be helpful. -It would be nice to update the study carrels-comfy furniture makes doing work more enjoyable.-It would be helpful if bathrooms were marked more clearly-hanging signs that protrude from the wall (I remember my first trip to the library and trying to find a bathroom-it wasn't easy, I had to ask).-The cafe is great and wonderful to have.
• Maybe expand the 24-hour room to be larger with more computers. The 24-hour room also needs a printer! Since a lot of things are going digital, I think that the library should implement various forms of digital libraries. A major thing that needs to be improved is noise control. The library is sometimes too noisy at times. I was thinking that maybe the front desk lobby area can be separated by installing a glass wall, something similar to the 2nd floor design. Another thing that is needed: SUN/UNIX computers. Also, add rooms that are geared toward certain majors. For example, add computer-related books in the computer lab around the wall, etc.
• there should be group study areas...more computers....more comfortable seating, such as couches
• The Teacher Resource Center is great... more computers and printers are definitely needed!
• The cafe and computer lab. Some computers could be added because they are sometimes all in use.
• all the services are great, maybe a larger 24 hour room would be a great improvement, and also the addition of macintosh computers with graphic design programs installed on them.
• I particularly like the Computer Labs, Reading areas, and Quiet corners to study the best.
• The 24 hour study hour room is a very important part of the library and allows me to have a quiet place to study no matter what time it may be.
• i like the wireless interent, but move laptops could be available for rent. It would also be nice if you could have them for more then then time allowed.
• I think the library a good variety of resources. I think more computers with more space in between them would be a big help. The computers in the lab are kind of cramped to work at.
• There really should be more places where groups could find space to work on projects. Also, having more outlets for laptop users would be nice.
• I use the library all the time...group meetings in the cafe and other various parts of the library, the computer labs to use the computers between classes. I lilke the addition of the computers to the 24 hour room. give students a chance to be in the library using the computers all the time. It is also good as an overflow in case the computer lab is full.
• I like the quiet areas to study.
• I really like the idea of having a 24 hour study room. The cafe is real nice too, a good place to meet a couple people and go over some work.I wish there was a printer in the 24 hour study room
• more quiet study space and computer terminals available especially during the busy times ofthe day 11-3ish
• the library should be a meeting place where people come together and learn
• I enjoy that the library has a large number of computers available to students. There is always a computer available when I go to the library.
• A group center where studnets who need to work in groups are able to utilize computers would be beneficial
• More computers for typing.
• Computer labs are good, the "Learning rooms" seem like a waste of space, I see them used only about 5 times a semester. There needs to be large room or area for "group study" and also "quiet" floors like the 3rd floor that are secluded and isolated so people can have silence to study in. Many people have different learning styles and need different learning environments. (quiet, group interaction, computer technology, etc.)
• get rid of the mac computers. or show us how to work them, they are different from dell.
• i love the cafe and the comfy couches in the lobby. the computers are great as well as the supply of periodicals and books. i wish there was a room for group projects n things where i wouldnt feel like i was interrupting anyone
• The quiet floors, and the ability to have wireless up there, simply amazing
• best part is the computer lab...its in the middle of campus which allows you to stop by and check mail, get some hw done, and print stuff at your convenience
• best part is the third floor becuase no groups are there. there is nothing more annoying than trying to study and having a loud group next to you. which is one thing that should be improved- group rukes for the 24 hour room; either NO groups after library hours, or KEEP IT TO A DULL ROAR! :)
• The third floor is the best to do individual work on
• I like the new computer desks in the 24 hour study room. The upper level floors feel too isolated and too creepy to study.
• I think that you need a palce specifically for group meeting or tutoring just like there is a quiet floor. That way you don't feel as if you are interupting those who are studying individually.
• Being a science major, I use the journal articles the most. I like the downstairs setup and the printers. However, I do not like the new copier up by the periodicals. It can't copy the journal pages as well as the last one did, for me at least.
• Renovation of library study areas - including sofas, and carpeting.
• cafe is great, i like the study carrels, and the 24 hour room now that it has computers. I think the third floor could use more comfortable seats and a more pleasant atmosphere to study the buzzing lights, white walls, and brown carpet can get eerie when alone up there. It has a cold kind of sterile atmosphere now.
• I think there is pleanty of space, more computers would be a plus. The teacher resource center is great.
• We need better / stronger signal of wireless networking for the internet in the library. It should also be much quieter.
• best parts: the refrence section is rather nice as is the childrens section. The rest could be improved (not to say those parts are perfect). first what is the distion that the special reserve book have are they really expensive alright but I can aprently still check them out acoring to multipule librarians. the 24hour study room should be able to print when the libary is open. (we get lines for computer just to print somthing while there are empty computers in there). I would want "roaming professors give prof incentive to work in the library b/c it makes them aproachable and eduction is ubtained by people who activly want it. also never get ride of books without asking relivant dept if they want them to be put in there storage area. example VOGUE you had volumes over decades of it but it cost to much shelf space so rather then asking the theatre dept. who has people majoring in costuming and makeup. It was a great source for fashon of very exact time frames i.e 1983 july.
• I enjoy the quite rooms to study. I also enjoy Starbucks.
• Need MORE computers and lap tops!
• Computers are the best part of the library, get rid of the books make them all electronicly available
• the only thing good about the library is the cafe. this is because of its warm and inviting atmosphere. the rest of the building feels like a hospital
• more desks to work at on the lower levels.
• It is good that there are designated places for groups to meet on the second level and for private studying on the third level. Computers are available as well as help from the staff. Finding certain articles are not easy to find and some that are recorded as available in the library are occasionally not found there.
• computer catolog good. computers themselves could be better. Interlibrary Loan is very good also. the books could stand to be updated along with the 3rd floor in general.
• the library should be open later! especially around finals! get a printer in the 24 hour room!
• I enjoy the computers spaced around in clutters and would enjoy having more, I feel more comfortable than being stuck in the computer room surrounded by many people. I do not feel comfortable going in the computer room because of the people so close together.
• 3rd floor is good for quiet work, studying, or reading. Don't think it would hurt to have more computers. I'll go in there to print something up and all the computers will be occupied.
• the third floor seems quite eerily quiet...i like it that way...i wish the 2nd floor had more architectual design to it like art and paintings thats jus the vibe i get from it...and the main floor is perfect the way it is
• More places to eat and study, better acknowledgement that third floor is the quiet floor, more dell computers (maybe a second lab), a way to print on 24hr. room printers past 11.
• The computer lab, except when there are no available computers. The cafe because it's a place to relax and a great setting for a group meeting. Top floor, since it has a great view, is quiet, and has a lounge feel to it.
• I dont really go there that much to say
• The computer lab should have more space
• The best parts of the building are all on the first floor. The Lake Effect Cafe is aesthetically pleasing and provides a place to hang out and do some research in a relaxed environment. The computer labs are satisfactory. Almost everything else could use improvements of some sort.
• The Teacher's Resource Center is the most helpful part of the library to me, as an Education Major. I have actually spent so much time there, I haven't used much of the rest of the library yet!
• Completley interactive, more joournals and books online.
• The computers are the best part of the library but more must be added with Microsoft Office. The audio area upstairs with TV's should have new headphones. The headphones are old and don't work!
• I like the caffe. I think the moveies you can take out should be added to.
• more rooms for group meetings should be added, cafe is nice, computers in the library instead of the lab are nice (more room)
• The 24-hour study is the place I go the most the computers are great. Printers in the study room would help greatly.
• It is a good learning environment, more tables and couches would be comfortable but its not that necessary.
• More computer access, also more books, higher end material
• You have a very weak science and math section. I have to go to the Syracuse University library to get current books.
• the addition of the cafe is a great idea as well as the 24 hour study room.
• there should be a seperate place for group work and single study. More desks would probably help. Also, if somehow all the books were in one or two rooms I think that would be nicer.
• A place to relax and do work. Lake Effect Cafe is a great start! I love that atmosphere. I like the addition to computers in the 24 hr study room. I no longer use that room now that i am off campus, but when i lived on campus i would go there A LOT and always wished there were computers there. I hope that you don't get rid of the books! i know that seems like a weird comment, but i have heard of librarys going totally virtual. I just cant read the same off of a computer.
• I like that the 24 hour room has computers now. And I like the cafe setting.
• More computer and quiet
• computer areas downstairs are nice...study areas on third floor are nice...
• The space desperately needs an aesthetic update. It looks very `60s. I feel the writing center should be moved into the library, since many students do their writing and research there.
• the computer room is one of the best resources. I think that the upper floor needs to be improved and added upon. Its kind of dark and cramped and should somehow be opened up.
• I think that the quiet areas of the library are great for studying but I think that there should be more areas where students can go to meet in groups to work together where they do not have to worry about talking at an appropriate volume.
• I love Starbicks- I am the type of person who needs to be in a cozy enviroment to study in a productive manner
• It is good now
• I have really utilized the second floor collection of journals, but frequently I could not find the ones that I needed. I am usually able to get articles I need through interlibrary loan however.
• You should add more computers because there is never enough for many of the students and you cant get your work done sometimes
• The computer labs.
• I enjoy the quiet spaces upstairs to study. What could be improved is the placement of printers in the 24hour study room.
• 24 hour room.
• I like the second floor tables near the stairs, a bit more quiet than the first floor, but not stone cold silence. The 24 hour room is excellent now, especially with the addition of the computers. My only complaint is that the coffee shop isn't open 24 hours!
• I think there should be more space like the comfy chairs near the fictions section of the library.
• I love that there is a 24 hour study room. I have not actually used it but I always knew that no matter what time it was if I needed a quiet place to study, it was there. I also enjoy the Teacher Resource Center. Being an education major it has helped me with many projects. If anything needed to be imporved, it would have to be the computer lab. It needs to be larger and have more computers. I have waited many times for a computer because they were all full. Also, if new computers are added, have them be IBM's since mac's are not as well known and are harder for some to use.
• I think we have a great teacher's section that has some really great resources. I think it's awesome that we have laptops that students can take out to use (and can take into the café). I think that we need updated juvenile/ children's lit books. I was looking through them the other day and I had a hard time finding newer books to use for my mini-units.
• More workstations downstairs. The stacks should be left alone
• The 24 hour study room is the best! And the insruction room1
• I love the Lake Effect Cafe. I think it is probably the best place on campus to work, or to meet, or anything else.
• Another computer lab.
• the books
• More parking. The library needs it's own parking lot where students won't get ticketed.
• I think the library has exactly what is needed and if they don't they know how to get it.
• computer labs open before 8am
• I like the idea that the types of things in the library, fiction, research materials, and media, are separated by floor. I think the electronic search could be improved, especially when searching for a specific type of media like music.
• computer lab is the best place
• the laptops are great especially being able to take them into the cafe... its a great place to relax and get things done
• sitting placecomputer section
• Quiet spaces are great.
• I like the way that it is now, but sometimes I think there should be more quiet space. I know that the 3rd floor is supposed to be, but it really isnt.
• The computer center, the amount of resources available to students. There should be more computers available to students. My favorite part is the Third floor because it is quiet.
• Let me first say that Penfield Library is, by far, the loudest library that I have ever been in. If the study rooms located on the second floor along the inner walls are full, I check out whatever books I need to use and leave. Attempting to work outside of these rooms is a waste of time, as students use the library to socialize, and are permitted to do so. This problem significantly detracts from the library's usefulness. It is not a place of study and of learning. As far as resources go, a few educational DVDs would be nice, the only DVDs carried are non-educational and most students no longer own VCRs. I had to go to my parents' home in Buffalo to watch Stephen Hawking's PBS series on VCR, which I would say is, academically, more important than Napoleon Dynamite, which you carry on DVD.
• The 24-hr study room and the computer lab are very useful for doing work, but there are no resources that take precedence over others for me. I think the study rooms upstairs should have doors put back on them, though.
• I enjoy sitting by the large windows and studying, In order to improve this, larger, more comfortable couches and chairs would be MUCH appreciated. Chairs AND couches that you could rest your head against while sitting upright. A more modern look for the library would be pleasant. And possibly a ROOM for the pledges to meet to do thier homework, it would be nice if they were marked as such so that they wouldn't be as a nusience. I don't like to study on the third floor, because it's so quiet its creepy up there. It'd be nice to see it put more in use... once again large comfy couches and maybe even a few vending machines, along with a nicer bathroom up there. Try using cool tones, like blues... PLEASE never EVER use the color you used to decorate Cooper Dining hall. It is VERY VERY ugly.
• The computer lab in the library is very helpful. Giving the students additional printing paper was a good idea and very helpful.
• I like how the higher you go up the quieter it gets, it helps for group projects and personal studying. More comfortable seating. The computer lab is good, but limited work space to do a report around the computer, so usually I have to rent a labtop but there is a 2 hour limit on it. The 24 hour room is convienient.
• The computer situation is good, especially now because of the new computers. I also like that there is computers in the 24 hour study room. The reference room is good as well, but I've only been in it like once or twice. The classrooms are nice and the information provided is good as well during those visits. Maybe those rooms could be a little bigger than the present ones. Overall everything is pretty good and useful.
• The 24 hour study room with computer access is so useful, especially considering I don't have internet access at home.
• I think that everything is good.
• Couches on the main floor so students can sit and read. The third floor is very stuffy, put some fans in or open some windows, it would make it much nicer to sit and do work the floor.
• It should be a quite environment for learning. I like how there are rooms for groups to go in if they thnk they will disturb others. I like how there are alot of computers to work on and there is also the choice to take a laptop.
• I feel that more resource space like the 24 hour room is needed. Just space to go and study. Being a communuter the library is one of the only places to go and study between classes.
• everything that i have used has been helpful in finding information. also i only use the resources i need such as the teaching resource center.
• more areas for restricted quiet study, BAN, I mean really ban the use of cellphones in the library! Fine students caught using phones in the library, this really is a distraction. Better copiers on the second floor. THe teaching resource center should be a center (with walls) where to-be teachers can get cheap copies, supplies, a Laminotor (with a fee of course! i cannot find a place to laminate stuff!) and a place to meet and exchange ideas. I think the part of the printing situation can be improved, instead of having a sheet print up saying 70 sheets left, perhaps a screen can pop up on the moniter of the PC stating that you have this many prints left or having the option to print that sheet.. I don't think there will be a problem with students not being able to identify their printouts. ITs a terrible and sad waste the amount of sheets we waste when there are public schools out there that can't afford copy paper. ALso perhaps we could have the option of selecting a higher quality paper on the color laser printer, which would cost us more sheets, not like photo paper, but a heavier gloss stock.
• I like the study rooms on the third floor, having a computer lab, and the cafe. The 24 hour room is useful too.
• I spend most of my time in the TRC and appreciate the resources I find there. Since I am a non-traditional student, I don't spend any more time in the library than necessary.
• Best parts of the building: -Quiet Study Area -2nd FloorParts to be improved/added: -Larger 24/hr study room&more computers. -More computers in the computer lab. -Purchase new seats and couches for entire library -Purchase more copy machines -Need more printing stations
• the Dewey Decimal system should be used. There should also be more comfortable chairs, tables and couches around. The best parts of the library are the 4 corners on the second and third floors that look out to the campus and that the sun shines in. There should also be a back door, or a door on each side of the library to leave by.
• laptop sign-outs, cafe, staff
• The best space of the library right now is nothing. I think the library is lacking in what students need from the library. I think that there needs to be MORE computers in the library and the hours of the lab need to be extended with the hours. The wireless internet needs to reach all the floors. I think that there needs to be more soafs and chairs with coffee tables like the small space on the second floor. I think that the library should be more useful for group projects. At other universities i have seen cubicals with computers in the library for this. I think that there needs to be more laptop computers and update them please. I think that there needs to be printers just for laptop prints. The cafe should be used for speakers like the ACLU speaker that came in and students and faculty can read/work there.
• i love the teaching resource room. i am an education major and that room has come in handy for me so many times.
• i love the teaching resource room. i am an education major and that room has come in handy for me so many times.
• I love the 24 hour quiet library, and all the different parts of the library!
• Should be welcoming/inviting, helpful to your needs. It's great that now laptops are available, though there could be more. Sometimes it gets too busy and you need to wait too long for a laptop, making it unable sometimes to do any work. The best part of the building is the cafe, without a doubt; it's the nicest because of the design and because of the technological factor. It's also a very business-oriented workspace, which I enjoy. The only things (which aren't necessarily very important) that I don't like are the outdated pieces of art on the walls (they look cheap), as well as older sculptures. Also, one thing that would make a huge improvement would be to change the old rugs on the upper floors - this was always something i hated about the library, it makes it seem old and dreary.
• I really like that computers were added to the 24 hour room, that is very helpful. The thrid floor quiet study rule needs to be enforced.
• The main part downstairs and the computer lab is always very busy, but the upstairs seems to be somewhat neglected. Perhaps if students were more informed of what is up there and had more reason to go, it would be an improvement.
• more computers available in small correls, and more areas for small groups to meet and work on projects
• the computer labs and the cafe are the best parts of the library
• The third floor quiet study rooms are great. They could be improved with more comfortable furniture. Also, more computers throughout the library would be useful.
• computer labs rulebook/periodical selection rockhelp desk is wicked awesomequiet/group floor-great idea
• Entrance should be something inviting and cool like Rich Hall, Study Rooms for teams should be inspiring, foster creativity (currently they are like prison cells). Each area (at least 10 rooms) should have a media room like in Rich hall for teams to use on projects, (Minimum is wireless internet, cat5 jacks x 8, vga to access the ceiling mount projector (so groups don't have to crowd around 1 person), and 1 computer mounted at the back of the room facing a screen pointing at the projector (all technology should be locked down for theft but accessible for use by students, durable furniture. The Lake Effect Cafe has the right theme and lighting... the rest of the library should keep the "Starbucks look" in mind during design... don't reinvent the wheel. Why is starbucks number 1 ... not because of the coffee... because of the experience. We can mirror that experience without modifying the structure of Penfield but doing architectual upgrades. Use starbucks colors, drop ceilings in some areas, fancy lighting, etc. Go to Starbucks and take notes.
• More quiet study rooms. Computers with Microsoft Office Suite should be available on all three levels, too often are there not enough computers available and students have to stand around waiting to pounce on a computer that someone logs off of.
• Computers by reference desk - much quieter and easier access to librarians. Lake Effect Cafe - nice atmosphere for enjoying a cup of coffee and writing a paper when it's quiet.
• Computers by reference desk - much quieter and easier access to librarians. Lake Effect Cafe - nice atmosphere for enjoying a cup of coffee and writing a paper when it's quiet.
• The availability to sign out laptops for group meetings is ideal. Has the ability to print from them been restored? Wireless connectivity in the library is ideal.
• The TRC is awesome. The fact that there are laptop computers with wireless connection is great. The addition to the computer center in the 24hour room in a bonus. I honestly think there is a great environment for people to work, it fulfills the learning styles of almost everyone. There are couches, comfy chairs, desks, tables, private rooms, etc. I think that the computer lab should have a door in it that allows students to entry from the 24hour room, that way students can have access to a printer. Also, I find that friends are there for hours upon hours and have to leave because they are hungry, thirsty, or just need to get away. Perhaps the addition of a television would help, an additional snack shop would be beneficial also. Those vendy machines are expensive and run out of the good stuff quick.
• I like the way the library is set up. The different floors to study is great. The computer lab is nice with a good amount of computers but I do think that we need another computer lab. There seems to be a lack of room in there during peek study hours and I am finding it difficult to get my work done when I have the time. The study areas on the second and thrid floors need to be regulated. Students are grouping where they are not allowed and quiet areas are not often quiet. The study carols are noisy too, because they are metal and everytime you hit the wall or desk it makes a loud noise. The cafe is very nice also I love the name of it too.

• definitely - quiet, study area
• the role is different becasue the library is the mecca of books. Everything I need to be a sucessful student is housed there.
• I feel that, especially the cafe area, it feels more professional than other study areas around campus (with the exception of Rich Hall). Also, it is obviously a great place to find sources.
• I think that the library is the place where learning and socializing come together in a great way.
• I think the library is a resource... it's knowledge comes from print, not mouth so of course it plays a differnt role in the campus community
• Yes, I use it as a place to go to read, study, or write without distractions.
• Yes, the library is my first and often only stop when conducting research.
• It's a place that you explore on your own and use indepently for work outside of the learning environment that is the classroom (so I feel that it's a sort of continuation of learning; a place of further learning, if you will). It is a great resource and is easy to use. Anyone can get a lot out of the library if they choose to utilize it.
• yes, people go to the library and expect to get a lot of work done and have access to many kinds of information.
• Its roll is one where students can meet and study, find resources they need
• i dont see the library as a learning center, it is not as if there are tutors or learning centers are in the library.
• It can be a great meeting place, especially centered around classes which require group projects. The cafe was a great addidtion, but the rest of the library needs to be updated in the same way. Also, updating the Media on the second floor would help tremedously. It is not an inviting place up there, and it is hard to find music and videos. The magazine racks are large and obtrusive, and take up too much space, when they can be organized vertically instead.
• obviously
• The library acts as a kind of root or source of knowledge on campus. Not only students go there but professors as well to find information. Other places around campus could change or move around but the library is stationary.
• yes. i always know i can go to study in a mostly quiet environment with no interuptions. Everywhere else people still talk and there are distractions.
• yes it is suitable for most needs, and is different than any other learning place. The library is usually quiet at least on the third floor, and if meeting in groups downstairs is nice.
• I only go to the library to take out books, and do group projects.
• It should be a place to relax to read leisurley, do homework, research etc. The cafe is also an awesome addition as well as the cablefree internet setup and laptops available to sign out.
• Yes, it should be a place of independent study.
• no other than having more resources
• Yes, it is a quiet and peaceful area. It promotes studying and is much easier to concentrate there than othr areas on campus.
• its the best place to study. keeps you away from distractions. and its a good way to see and meet people.
• to an extent because of the books and resources it has.
• Definitely. It has wonderful study rooms.
• Yes, the library is where a student should be able to go to find a spot to work on their schoolwork, or just hang out and read for relaxation. It's a place where you aren't limited by what labs are available at different times, you can always go.
• I think the role of the library is to serve as a place where people can find all the information that they need to assist them in all of their classes, so I think the library is a different type of place completely.
• yes, much different from studying in a dorm for example....less distractions, more resources
• Its role is different from classrooms, if that's what you mean. I'm a commuter so I stay on campus on my off hours and 90% of that time is spent in the library.
• yes it's specifically for studying or research
• absolutely, yes. the library is one of my favorite places on campus, and one of the most important to me.
• yes, more personal, private and individually based
• its easier to get more work done there

• Yes, the library is the place where we as student come to focus on our individual studies and need a space like that where there are no outside distractions, it is also a great meeting place for group meetings.
• the library gives students a place to both study quietly and access tons of information.
• It offers a quite comfortable place to study and research material.
• Different in one respect because it is a facility mainly used for conducting specific research rather than learning broader material from a lecture. However, it is similar due to the librarians' under-acknowledged use as a teaching resource.
• it is a really good resource for every subject and if you cannot find what you are looking for, there is someone there to help you find it.
• Yes, it is more quiet and a lot of opportuinities are open. You can meet in groups or just go to study alone. The environment is how you choose it to be.
• The library is different from other places on campus. I think that it can be a place to make connections with others, but it's main purpose should be for researching information and studying. Sometimes I find it hard to find a peaceful place on campus to get work done, even at the library.
• Yes. It is much more official. Everything is segmented according to research styles.
• Yes, the role of the library is to provide a quiet place for studying, computing, reading, or engaging in any of a number of other activites. Other learning places are focused mainly on teaching by spoken word, not written.
• Yes, the demeanor and social rules regarding the library are more solemn and a bit stricter than other areas on campus. It's important that students respect other peoples' right to a quiet, clean and functional place to study.

• Yes, it offers more areas for study and relaxing than an academic building.
• I go nowhere else, all the resources I need are here
• can't find as many elsewhere.
• Yes i think so. A library is for research and learning. Other places are just for learning
• yes, there is a place to go where it's always quiet for the most part
• The library has a distinct atmosphere about it, the ablilty to retreive additional resources if nessecary at a whim is a feeling of increased aility to succeed.
• There should be quiet places as well as locations for group work and conversation.
• yes...it should be a place for a student to study, or have study groups
• Yea, it's a library - of course it's different.
• Yes, I believe it is a place where everyone there are all on the same track of thought, work. So if someone is making noise, they will be stifled more than in the dorms.
• I don't use any others
• It has books...
• The library is the place to be. Group meetings and other meetings are attended here. Ive never had a meeting besides the library. Students can get a coffee or some other beverage during a meeting.
• Yes I think so. It is just a different kind of setting and it has so many resources.
• Sure, its a library, the ultimate place for research
• what others
• Yes. It gives you a quiet area, allows you to research hard copies and internet resources, the librarians are always very helpful in tryin to help you with research or any other questions you may have.
• yes because it needs to be reliable and it is
• totally, all subjects come in and out of the building, where as other places are mostly bound to one or 2 subjects.
• a little bit, it is similar to the computer lab in lanigan, but the lanigan lab has horrible hours
• of course. its full of resources for you to use at your will. very accessable, and very useful.
• It's a good place to do work and/or study
• Feel as though they have everything I need at the library and they have even called to find information about stuff off campus for me when I was new to area. They helped me locate a bank and called for the hours for me too.

• yes you are the home of wisdome a student can walk in and learn unassisted. try that in mahar. However your role is to activaty agressive learning
• The library offers a quiet and comfortable place for students, faculty, and community members alike to do work. It is definitely different in that way because there are really no other places like that on campus.

• not really can just check out books that about the only difference

• the cafe is a nice place to just sit with freinds and talk
• I am more motivated to stay quiet and focused.
• Yes, there's three different floors, all serving different purposes.
• Only that it is well lighted and has a lot of resources in a very close vicinity.
• quiet, lots of resources
• Yes, some don't like the atmosphere of the library, which can be thought of just for studying or looking for books. But with the computers and cafe, that motif has worn away, making it a place to check e-mail, type papers, relax, enjoy a cup of coffee, etc.
• of course, because it has a lot more information to help us in our studies
• The role of the library is most definately different. Students usually go to the library because they want to find out information or do research for something in class, although it is not always required. It would be much easier to just find the information online. On the other hand, most students dread going to many of their classes. Would you rather go to the library to do some research on a paper you are writing or sit through a horribly boring biology class in Piez Hall?
• The library provides a place that no other building can provide. It is always quiet and the resources you need are right at your fingertips.
• No it is more important than any single learning place on campus. It holds the information for all programs.
• not always, but it is a nice place to meet because computers are always there and there is always room to meet with a group, there is no place like this in rich hall
• Yes, it provides many of the resources that we need in one place for many subjects to be researched.
• Yes, it should be a strict learning enviroment that brings text and computer technologies together.
• It should be quieter and more open to studying than say the Union.
• Not so much different. I like being able to have a neutral place to meet up with faculty and students to meet (Lake Effect Cafe)
• Yes and no. I go there to strictly get work done, but i also go there to relax when i have time to spare on campus.
• yes, there are more resources
• It's all about self learning at the library, so yes, it's different.
• I think the role is different because students can go there to do research, use the computer lab (which is often full), and study without having to worry about students involved in loud activities such as in the student union.
• Yes. The library offers not only a quite place to study but also a place to meet friends and discuss classes and groups (Starbucks)

• Yes it has the resources you need for a paper or other research.

• I only go to the library so I can't compare it to other places.
• Yes, because everything is available in one place.
• I think the role of the library is different than other learning places and activities on campus. I haven't visited the writing center, but the library is helpful in many ways. Whether I need to print something off or research a topic. It is interactive, but there could be more done to make it more interactive.
• I only go to the library.
• Yes, this is the place people go to take out books and should be able to find information on anything. This is a place you could go to not knowing anything about a topic and with the help of the staff find information .
• Yes. Here you have access to computers and research materials. The library offers a quiet space to go and learn.
• yes because it provides a quiet place to study and any resource needed for a school project.
• yes, but i thnk it could offer workshops and classes as well
• Yes, the library is more of a retreat in order to do work at your own pace.
• For some students, I imagine it is but not for me.
• Yes. The library is a place where you work independently or with a group and apply what you've learned in class to complete an assignement-whether it be research, independent study, completing a paper, and/or working on presentations. Compared to other facilities, the library serves as a student's personal, academic training ground.
• not really, I find the study lounges in my dorm to be adequate. I usually only go if I need to do research and get books. I think if it was more aesthetically pleasing I would want to hang out there a lot more, but the inside isn't very inviting, so it seems like a chore to sit there all day.
• yes because it involves everything, not just one speciality
• Yes, because it is the only place on campus where you can go for quiet study. Also, it is the only place to go for research.
• for me, its not different for what i use it for, it is an accessory and an additional resource that i love.
• for me, its not different for what i use it for, it is an accessory and an additional resource that i love.
• I feel more motivated to learn and do more work in the library than any other place on campus.
• The library is essential to learning, I find it very important to be up to date and welcoming to all students. I do feel that it's role is different than other places on campus - you need to feel comfortable in the library.
• The library needs to enforce the third floor quiet study rule, because that would be the only area that students can depend on a quiet area to concentrate, there’s nowhere else on campus for students to concentrate, the dorms could never be quiet, and there a very few places in the academic buildings to sit down and study.
• The library has an advantage because it is open much later than other buildings and it is more of a convenient, central area to work.
• only in that it should be quieter
• Yes its more productive and not completely silent. If it were completely silent so students might fall asleep in there.
• Yes - there is an area where quiet study is the norm. Its hard to find that elsewhere.
• yes, the most info is available in the library
• Yes it should be a central hub where students can come and be free to create... stay and brainstorm w/ colleagues.
• Yes, this is the center for study and research.
• Yes, because it is primarily used for school work.
• Yes, because it is primarily used for school work.
• Its role is significantly different than other places. When you tell someone you need to go to the library, or that you have been at the library, they know that you need to get work done, and its serious!
• You can not borrow these resources any where else on campus.
6 c) Do you more often go to the library or use it virtually? Why?
Yes: 3
Complete Answers: 209
See below:
• use it online frequently
• i visit library often for group meetings, working on research, or just reading text books.
• I go to the library more often. It is a great place for me to focus, and the resources I need are at my fingertips
• Usually virtually. I use JSTOR a lot when searching for articles. Also, it is cheaper to download a needed article from online than it is to photocopy one in the library. I often use the catelog from my computer in the room to search for any books or media that I need and see if the library offers it and if it is available or not. If it is there, then I will head over to pick it up. However, if I am stuck on a project, I often will go to the help desk, and they can usually point me in the right direction.
• I use both avenues. It really depends on what I need.
• Library. A lot of times students and I go to the library to work on group projects.
• I usually go to the library. I get more work done that way.
• Virtually. living off campus it is easier to access it online then going to the library
• If I'm looking for a book I go to the library. Journal articles are easier to obtain online and much more cost effective than copying them page by page, especially if you need several articles
• I go to the library much more often than using it online, because I use it primarly not as a place to get books and readings, though I do sometimes, but as a place to quietly get work done.
• Both, depending on what kind of sources I'm looking for.
• I do both. When I have a question about the library, I can usually find a good answer on the website. When I wonder if the library has a book (or if it's in), I use the catalog from my own computer (in case it's out, then I didn't make a trip over to the library for nothing). I will go to the library to study, work on something, get books for a project, and sometimes to grab something to read or look at for leisure.
• I tend to use it more virtually because I can access the databases from my own computer without having to walk there.
• library, because i find it more useful to actually go to the the library because most of the time I need to look at books.
• I more often go to the library. It's a great place to meet girls.
• i go more often to use the computer lab and print things out.
• I access information online first, before I take the time and effort to walk to Penfield and try to browse to find what I need. Having the book catalog and journal catalog online helps with this.
• I go more in person because my classes are in Mahar and Lanigan, so the library is right there for me to stop by if I need to or if I have extra time in the middle of the day.
• Recently I have been going to the library more often than virtually because it is a central point on campus in which to relax inbetween classes. The union is also a place for this however it can be noisy and crowded.
• go to the library.
• I use them for different purposes. I use the library mainly for studying and if i need a hard copy of a book. But i use the online for references to mla format and other information.
• Yes, i go to the library several times a week. Also, when writing papers i use the penfield site for researching.
• to study and print notes for class
• I use it virtually if i am doing research because it is easier and quicker to obtain information.
• I love the library, however I prefer the comforts of my own room to do work and relax and go online to the library. If need be I go directly to the library but mostly to access CD's etc.
• I go to the library to use the resources including the internet acess.
• Physically to go there.
• I more often use the library resources virtually because it is much easier than looking up where to find a research volume, and then finding it.
• Both. Virtually to see if the book is available and to see what is available and go there to get book and look for other resources
• I go there physically more than online because I have a passion for books and the atmosphere the comuter doesn't give.
• i pretty much live at the library
• Go to the library
• Virtually becuase i dont have to go anywhere or go outside, but a lot of times i look up books or resources abd then go and actually take them out at the library.
• A couple of times a semester, only if neccessary. I am not to sure how to use it virtually i would rather use what i am aware of.
• I go to it more often because I need to study and use the computers to print out papers and assignments.
• I go in person more, because it has a nice atmosphere and it's fun to scan the books in person versus online, which most of the time is not as productive.
• virtually, because the library is kind of ratty looking.
• I've never gone.
• Virtually
• use it virtually.....i love ILL....i have to do a ton of research for psychology and ILL is very helpful and fast!
• Virtually because I live off campus.
• virtually becuase it is quicker and easier and i dont have to leave my room
• I go to the library more often physically than virtually because it (the first floor, at least) is a comfortable, and comfortably quiet, space to do homework. I spend a lot of time there between classes.
• virutally if the weather calls for it, plus i am on the new campus, far from the library
• I use it virtually more because there is never an open computer to use in the library.
• both equally; I go online to access articles and find out if what I need is available at the library; I go to the library to find books, study, and access journals that I cannot get online
• depends on the task, online if i can help it, just less of a hassle
• Go to the library
• equal for both. I use online resources such as databases, info track and lexis from home. Books and copies are mad at the library. I also usually print any articles I find at home in the library
• Lately, I use the library virtually, more often, due to travel and convenience.
• i use it mostly to go check my email or write a paper
• I prefer going to the library over virtually, I like having any resources I need on hand and sometimes the virtual library can't provide the things I am looking for.
• I more often go to the library. I think that it is a great environment and feel more likely to study when I am actually there.
• I go to the library, because it is hands on and is easier to locate resources than virtually.
• Both are necessary; the library contains actual paper information and is an excellent place to get work done without having the annoyances of dorm rooms, virtually is often times far more convenient due mainly to online journals such as JSTOR. My only complaint is that wireless connectivity is not available everywhere on campus.
• I usually go to the lib. I like to handle what i need it is easier for me to study that way.
• I more often go to the library that use it virtually. I do this because I like to study in a quiet place where I am not disturbed.
• I go vitually to find articles on the online databases mostly
• I more often go to read and have a quiet study area.
• I think I use both about the same. I like the convenience of having online access, but I also like going to the library and having the actual documents in front of me. I also like using the library when I need to get serious work done and cannot be distracted
• I go to the library mostly because I need to print out notes for class. I also like to go when assigned a research project because there is usually some good information that can be found.
• i generally just go, sometimes the website is difficult to follow
• I more often go to the library because it is easier to guage the relevance of a source by actually being in contact with it.
• i go to the library more often then virtually because you get twice as much done in the library then at home in half the amount of time. the environment stimulates you to get work done
• resources for papers and research and for focusing when i need to read my textbooks
• I use the library facility itself just as much as I use the virtual resources. I think that a combination of hard-copy sources as well as digital journals and publications are essential to well-rounded research.
• Virtually because it is hard to find time to go there. It is also hard to find somewhere to park near there.
• Yes, b/c it is nice not to have to leave the comfort of your own room, esp in the winter
• virtually for journals, in person for books
• virtually because it is cheaper to get journal articles that I can print off than copying them and there is a greater variety of science journals online.
• I go to the library to study away from home and its distractions. But I do often use the virtual resources at home when I don't want to leave my apartment. I would say I spend slightly more time at the library physically than online.
• I look on the library catalogue from my dorm room and then go to the library and find the books I'm looking for. This just makes my trip to the library quicker.
• I more often go to the library
• I go to the library most often, even tho it's easy to connect at home, if I need help or clarification I come here
• virtually, because usually I just need infotrack for research.
• Both. Depends on what is most convient at the time.
• I more often go to the library because it's easier to concentrate.
• In person, because if they do not have exactly what I am looking for, they may a have similar book I wouldn't have found unless I saw it on the shelf.
• Honestly it depends. If I'm on campus and have down time I do go to the library to study or work on the computer. When I need to find scholarly articles though I always access them online. Since I do not live on campus it makes more sense to connect online than drive down to the library.
• I go to the library often because its the only place where everyone can meet to get together and study, with all resources available.
• use it virtually...less hassle
• Go there more often, because everythings there - virtually can tell me if a book is available but it can't show me specific content inside of the book.
• Virtually because a project required researching a company in which online articles were the best sources of information
• I enjoy the peace and quiet on the third floor for studying
• I use it more virtually because I usually just need to cite an article or text for a project, so I enjoy not having to go all the way to the library to access those documents.
• Both. I use it virtually to look up books that may be of potential use to my research, but then I will also go and look through the books at the library to determine if others may be interesting as well.
• i go to the library to do my work. it is hard to get work done in my room. The library has a work friendly atmosphere
• I go to the library alot for research and to use the printers
• I go to it more often
• I am in the library a lot. If not everyday, then at least 5 or 6 times a week. Every tuesday/thursday during a break between classes and at night for SIFE meetings and other group meetings.

• go there because there more work space then in my room and to use the computers to printe large papers
• i use it virtually theres a lot of resources offered from the website and i find it very convienient
• Since I don't have a computer or laptop, I go to the library every day to check e-mail or to type assignments.
• virtually because oswego weather is terrible
• virtually because its always packed in there.
• No. I find it easier to go in the library and find the information myself, but I go online to check if the resource is available, I use the online periodicals to use article research and other resources not available to check out of the library
• virtually. Printers.
• virtually because i can access what i need quicker and easier than scanning the shelves
• I go there, there are people to assist in any way shape and form.
• i go to the library more, but i use it virtually as well...i go to the library to print stuff out and use the resources virtually for academic papers
• yeah i dont know what you are asking. so i will try to answer as best as i can; i go everyday. sometimes for a minute to print something and sometimes for hours to study.
• I go to the library more than I use it virtually because it's a nice, quiet, and conmfortable place to get work done outside of the busier dorms.
• More often I go there, to interact with other people, to sociolize...
• If im doing research I usually use the online part, but I go to the library to print of notes.
• Virtually. Much more convenient as a non-traditional student with children.
• both, you have to go there to actually pick up books, and print.
• Both, I use ILLIAD alot for journal articles, which I can do mostly from my dorm. I also will look up at my dorm if articles/books I need are at the library and where before I go to save time.
• Both - I use it vertually for course reserves, and phsyically for study time.
• I go to the library at least 4 times a week and use it virtually about twice a week.
• I usually go to the library, because whenever I am looking for resources, I end up finding more things to use by sight, that I would not know was there if I used the library via web.
• To the library, I find it easier.
• in person b/c online is horride and your website is rather poorly desined.
• I use the library more often virtually because I am a commuter. Plus, if everything that I need is available online from home, then why drive to Oswego?
• I am on campus 2x a week and one of those days I am in the library. The remainder of the week I use it virtually for my work. I live 45 min. away so virtual is the best way for me.

• I got to the library more than use it virtually, because i like to take out books but i use it virtually to locate the books i am looking for.
• library, mostly go there to study in a quiet and non-distractive atmosphere
• When I was a freshman, I was more hesitant to use the library then I am now as a senior. In terms of research, I still use the virtual library to see if I can find it online first, for convenience. But inbetween classes I head to the library and do my homework, generally on the third floor because of the view and how quiet it is.
• go to the library more. its just easier being there in case i have a question about something
• I go more often to the library because it allows me to use spss while working with a partner on our time.
• I tend to use the resources of the library online more often than I go to the library because you can do it from the comfort of your own dorm room. This is even more true when it is snowing out or freezing to the point where you debate whether the short hike to class in lanigan is worth the frostbite.
• I connect to library resources virtually as much as possible simply because it is convenient. I like being able to look books up in the online catalog and print out a list of what I need, when it will be there, and where I will find it. However, I usually go to the library building just as often.
• In person, it doesnt have the online resources I need. I thin kwe should invest in Lexus Nexus for students as well.

• Go to the library because I need to use a binder of essays that my professor puts there.
• Yes, I do
• In the past I have used the library virtually more frequently because I was mainly using journal articles that I could try to find online. I am grateful for the handicapped parking near the Library and I go there when I need to get out a book or meeta group and sometimes when I need to print. If I have to look up journals or other things, I do it online.
• I probably use it equally. I only go to the library if I need to check out a book, return a book, or talk to a librarian. I don't work well in the library atmosphere-there's too many distractions. • Go to the library, I am unsure of how to use it virtually.
• I do both, but I do them within the library. If I am looking up research I like to be in the library so I can check out the books that I find virtually. This year I have used the library more than the past two because I think its a good place to come and get work done and also because there is so much information available.
• I physically visit the library most often because I like to take out numerous books for outside of class study. The virtual aspect of the library is invaluable when it comes to doing research for quick papers that require a source or two. I most often can find an article online and never have to go through the shelves for it. Those online databases and indexes make researching a million times faster. It would be great if we could have more texts available online. It makes it so much more convenient to cite texts when all you have to do is copy and past. We are generation X and Y.
