-
Minutes:
-
We reviewed the minutes of the last meeting. We decided to post summaries of our discussion on a website. Doug Deal will keep Faculty Assembly up to date through announcements.
-
Additional Thoughts on Visions:
-
The group reviewed ideas shared from library committees this summer related to internal and external partnerships, multimedia services, librarian outreach, access to other buildings, and so forth.
-
Focus Groups with Faculty:
-
We discussed the importance of meeting with many groups to collect ideas about our library in 2020. We will encourage people to think about where we need to be in 2020, rather than just to analyze current services. What are the essential features, components, configurations of the library of the future, and how do we get from here to there?
-
The group discussed various ways to start a discussion, including what the institution will be, who our students will be, and what library users will need. What we want by way of introductory remarks will be some provocative ideas about both physical and virtual “library”. Then we want to move to some open-ended questions that allow people to share their visions of the environment, relationships with others in the library, services needed. What are the students’ opinions of what needs the library meets or doesn’t meet? Faculty will be encouraged to think about what the students need as well as what the faculty need.
-
Visits to groups will include at least two people—one to ask questions and one to take notes on main ideas generated by the group. Then each group will arrange a meeting contact with their assigned group(s) and get the information to Darlene to collate for later consideration.
-
Other:
-
Handouts on Professional Development Center and ORSP space were distributed for future discussions.
-
We discussed some community groups that might want to participate in visioning.
-
Susan visited Catholic University Library to view renovations. It appeared that they were trying to make the entrance particularly inviting for students and faculty to come in and sit down. As you go to conferences, try to go into libraries.
