Office of Learning Services: The Council welcomed Elyzabeth Wengert, new director of the Office of Learning Services, who offered comments on her vision for OLS and its programs in the coming year. The Council discussed ways that OLS might meet growing demand for its services across the entire student body.
Voluntary System of Accountability: Susan presented information on a joint effort by the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges (NASULGC) and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) to develop a document that would provide good data regarding various student success measures such as graduation rates and continued enrollment of students who transfer into other universities; a measures of post graduation plans; direct learning outcome measurement of the value-added by the university to undergraduates in the areas of critical thinking; and analytic reasoning and written communications ability. The Council will continue this discussion at a future meeting.
College Hour: Rameen presented a list of programs proposed for the College Hour initiative in the coming academic year. Ideas were discussed.
Campus Center Opening: Rameen announced Dr. Cathy McHugh Engstrom, Chair of the Department of Higher Education at Syracuse University, will be keynote speaker for the official opening of the Campus Center on October 11th. Additional events are planned for October 11th and 12th. Dr. Engstrom is a noted expert on the impact of learning communities and collaborative learning strategies on under prepared students in urban community and state colleges.
The Council will forward additional program suggestions for that two day event to Rameen.
