Minutes for May 7, 2008

College Hour:

The Council discussed the recent activity in Faculty Assembly related to the College Hour for spring 2009. A variety of data has been collected from the campus.  Student Association has expressed strong support.

Graduation Learning Outcomes:

We discussed the need for more attention to the purpose and value of graduation learning outcomes and their place in the curriculum.  This will be a priority when classes resume in the fall semester. 

Budget:

We discussed strategies we might use depending on possible budget cuts.  We are still holding on new appointments.

Tenure track faculty requests:

The Council reviewed a preliminary list of requests from deans for tenure-track faculty searches to commence in the coming year.  In light of the discussion, a revised list will be presented by the deans at Priorities and Planning Council Friday, May 9th.

Announcements:

Students are holding an event today to encourage campus-wide participation in ‘Code Unity,’ part of an effort to affirm the importance of diversity.  Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to sign banners that will be on display in four campus dining halls at 12:30PM today.  A march will follow at 5:15PM this evening.  Additional ‘Code Unity’ events are being planned for the fall semester.
