Requests for faculty searches:
The Council discussed proposed criteria for setting priorities in faculty hiring during the coming academic year. Deans will present requests for faculty searches in their specific units to the Provost by May 1st.
Transfer and Articulation:
The Council discussed a memo to Susan from the Transfer Coordinator Chris Hockey regarding recommendations from the Commission on Higher Education. Among suggestions put forward were the following: move forward on program-to-program articulations working with chairs and program directors; work to serve new and proposed programs at downstate colleges; reach out to colleges that are announcing new programs about transferring to us; continue to improve advisement for transfer students; work on course availability to transfers; link more effectively with the Orientation program to meet the needs of incoming transfer students.
Research Center:
The Council discussed a proposal for a new Center for Accounting Research and Education in the School of Business. A number of suggested changes to the proposal were offered. The proposal was returned to the School for revisions in light of the discussion. The proposal will be considered again in two weeks.
Hospitality:
A special hospitality account has been established to fund certain expenses related to faculty searches not fundable through regular state accounts per New York State policy. The Provost is prioritizing expenses charged to the account, which is limited.
