Changes in the Office of Continuing Education:

Given the increasing complexity of the Office of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions, the Director title will change to Dean, and the name of the unit will also change.  These changes better reflect its role in the development and implementation of ongoing initiatives including the Metro Center.

Priorities and Planning:

The deans will meet with Priorities and Planning Council on May 9th to discuss requests for new faculty positions to be searched in the coming academic year.

Core Commitments and the Sesquicentennial Plan:

The Council reviewed movement within Academic Affairs toward meeting institutional commitments and goals, and in implementing the campus sesquicentennial plan.  There was consensus that much has been accomplished and a number of indicators point to ongoing progress.

Center for Accounting Research and Education:

The Council approved a proposal by the School of Business to establish a new Center for Accounting Research and Education.  A formal review of the center will be conducted on a five year cycle, the first to commence in 2013.

Announcements:

Susan asked members to attend as many events as their schedules permit during Honors Week.  Many excellent events have been scheduled.

Pamela Cox, Associate Professor of Marketing and Management, has been appointed Associate Dean of the School of Business.  A search has been launched for a director of the MBA program.

Faculty are reminded that any activity they wish to have included in the annual report for the Division of Academic Affairs must be loaded into the faculty activity reporting system no later than May 15th.

Faculty planning sabbaticals are reminded to investigate the many fine opportunities for international travel and research are available through the Fulbright program.
